Questions for Cities XL Veterans..

    Good afternoon forum,

I recently started playing Cities XL 2012 after years of playing SimCity 4.. And I found it quite easy. In the beginning money was pouring in like water and that went on for quite some time. However, I recently hit the 10.000-11.000 inhabitants mark and now my leisure, security, educational and health facilities are raping my city funds. It's dropping drastically. I really have no clue as to what's wrong.

I always keep my taxes on the edge of being 'normally' satisfied and extremely satisfied, meaning I want the icons indicating satisfaction in the top right corner to be fully green at all times. I've tried building more houses, industries and what not but that'll also come with a rising demand of facilities.

I'm stuck. I've always been fairly good at SimCity but I can't seem to get this right. I play in the normal mode btw, where you'll have to unlock buildings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't know whether this is a common problem among Cities XL starters, if not, I'd gladly show a printscreen of my city if that'd help you with helping me - It's not a big city anyway.

    Thanks in advance !

    Tomasu.

SimCity 4 has a steep learning curve. Cities XL has a jagged learning curve.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I really do not know what you mean by that ? English isn't my native language =O. Or is it a 'gtfo we don't want to answer' type of answer ?

What I meant that it takes a while to learn how to play SimCity 4 but it is easy to make a small city in Cities XL and very difficult to run a major city in Cities XL. So a jump from successful non-modded medium sized city to large city is easier in SimCity 4 than Cities XL.

You have to aim at developing taxable industries in the city, as opposed to utilities - this is the major mistake of rookies at the start of a city :)

Don't go ahead and build all 4 Utilities - that, combined with the Services, will rip off your budget. Instead, build 1 - 2 Utilities and try to develop Offices, Agriculture, or any Industry to the point when you can export surplus tokens for cash (that means to Omnicorp).

Also, you might want to develop a second city, which complements the first with the missing resources.
