Welcome aboard!

There is no such a thing as "eleveted tram". There is the monorail network, as well as eleveted rail network, and if you install the NAM (Network Addon Mod) you can also have GLR (Ground Light Rail). The El-Rail, the GLR and subways all use the same automata. If this is what you mean by "style", you can download and install some tram or streetcar mods from the STEX. They are sometimes called a "skin".

Yes but No. I appreciate that there is no such thing as an elevated tram, But this is a game so I thought maybe. What I am looking for is a tram that is lifted up out of the road so that it can run independantly of the traffic pattern whilst following the existing route miles. You can't do this with rail because while you can sandwich the rail between parallel one-way roads to simulate the wide avenue with tram, you can't make the turns and the intersections look like a nightmare. Some of us tried this in the early days before the tram mod.

    I guess it's just a thought experiment.

Don't know what you mean by "wide avenue" but NAM does contain the following network types:

    - GLR-in-Avenue (2-tile wide avenue with GLR tracks in the middle)

    - GLR-in-Road and GLR-on-Road

    - GLR-on-Street

    - Elevated rail over road puzzle pieces

    - Plain GLR, Rural GLR and GLR on ped-mall puzzle piece

And of course there is the elevated rail (by SC4/RH). All these do connect with each other. Then all you need to do is pick your desired tram mod (skin) and maybe adjust the number of cars in the consist.

^ Of the above that Cogeo listed, I think that Elevated rail over road puzzle pieces would be the one that fits your situation the best. It is the Maxis El-rail, except now a road runs in parallel underneath. It also has curves, T-intersections, and Cross Intersections that fit in the same space as roads (That is, a 90 degree turn within one tile). Also, the GLR connects to El-rail, so you could use the El-Rail and El-Rail over road as your "Elevated Tram". You will of course have to deal with there being a road under the tracks, but perhaps you can just use it for intersections?

    Edit:

Below is a picture of what it looks like. I found it on {this Japanese website}, and it is for the 2010 version of the NAM, but I don't think a lot has changed in regards to this element.
