    Hi,

I'm new to the site and would like to download some of the great textures mods but need a little help. I tried to download one file but did not see an "executable" file in the folder I downloaded it to. Do I just download the file directly to the simcity 4 folder? Thanks in advance for any help. I have had SimCity 4 sitting on my shelf for 8 years now and finally loaded it. I would love to add just about everything thats here on the site.

It's pretty simple. If it's a zip file, unzip and put it in your plug-ins folder. Read the ReadMe file in case they want it in a specific place.

Yep, just like that. However, its not a bad idea to keep the .zip files in a separate folder with a name like <you>\Documents\Downloads, and keep the expanded file there too. You might find it convenient to have subfolders in there to help you find one if it gets updated. Then, move only plugin related files to <you>\Documents\SimCity 4 ...\Plugins. The only files that really are plugins are those with these extensions:

    .SC4LOT

    .SC4DESC

    .SC4MODEL

    .DAT

    .DLL

When you get any or all of the first three, put them all across. .DAT is a combination of the others. A dynamic link library (.DLL) is a special and must not appear in a subfolder. The rest should be in subfolders that parallel your Downloads structure. Saves a lot of fuss when you get an update.
