How do most of you play with regards to building styles. Do you stick to one or let them cycle ever few years? It seems strange to me to let them cycle but maybe I'm missing something.

This is a feature that I take on default. Since I am playing for a different goal than appearance of my city, I find it not an issue.

I find when I have it cycle every few years, if I create a large block of the same density building then I will often get the entire thing immediately filled with identical buildings. This can be annoying, especially with commercial service, who wants to see an entire street block filled with the same exact retail store?

So I keep it on all styles at once.

    Welcome to Simtropolis.

That is one strategy that increase the range of the randomizer. Recently, I have started using ploppable commercial buildings. You should be aware that ploppable residential buildings have an unfixable problem with the pathfinder, and will quickly abandon.

I like how the building tilesets work. I can start off building Chicago-old buildings, in the downtown area, and later on, the years progress into more advanced buildings. It also gives neighborhoods their own special "style".
