I just got Ilives again(i uninstalled it before) and i need help making a couple of mods. the mods I want to make are:

    • passenger rail mod- I wanted to increase the default cars from 4 to 20
    • Rail spawn mod- mod/lot that spawns the UDI Passenger, Steam, and the freight train in the same location every time instead of a random location
    • Darknight light extender mod- a mod that just Extend the lights on streets and buildings till 7am instead of 1am

if you know how to do this, then can you please tell me. it would be greatly appreciated.

also im trying to add the two bridges that Srainy made but when i try to edit it nothing changes. can you help on this too.

    Hey Skylerracer!

First off have a look at these tutorials:

Now, when it comes to modding SImCity 4 properties, you will need to do some searching as well, trial and error. First, download the latest version of iLives reader and open up SimCity_1.dat from the menu. You will see quite a lot of options but these are all ambiguous files. However, we can work with the exemplars quite easily.

Open up the exemplar tab and a new window will appear. Under the "find" menu click the properties button and click the question mark next to the drop-down menu.

From there onwards, you will need to do some searching and trial/error. Look at the descriptions of files and when you find a property you would like to edit click "Select it" and then right click the property and select "edit". From there, you will see a value or values which can be edited. They will be in "Hexadecimal" form which is a different numerical system similar in someways to "binary". Look up a hexadecimal to decimal converter and edit the values you want to change.

Finally, select "apply" and under the "exemplar" menu click "add to patch" if you want your mod to be in a ".dat" form. Then exit out of the window and find "patch manager" under the "tools" tab. Click it and select "create .dat" and save it as whatever you want.

Then you can put the .dat file in your plugins folder and test the mod. As a tip, I rename the "plugins" folder to something else and create a new blank folder called "plugins" so that the mod doesn't conflict with anything else and SimCity 4 can load extremely fast since the only plugin it has to deal with is the mod you put in place. Just remember to change it back once you are finished.

If this seems a bit complicated or my tutorial is a bit unclear, do the omnibus tutorials I linked at the beginning. The learning curve for iLives is pretty steep but it is quite a useful tool once you get the hang of it. :)

    Cheers!
