Let us collect things that kill the game other than CTDs. I've been having a few strange experiences and want to see if others are having the same problems and if we can figure out what the causes are.

I am currently running on Linux Mint release 11 (Katia) with wine 1.3.15 (a beta, but the default for Katia)

Today, while I was working on a detached part of my tile, I got the Farmer's Market reward, accepted it, then did a navigation jump using the mini-map in the GUI to move to the main area to place it. The game hung in the redraw after moving over. It just stopped without doing anything. I had to kill it using the kill command. And even then, I had to kill the supporting console (script) to get my machine back in operation. I think this was some kind of wine hangup in the graphics section, but can't put a finger on it.

If anyone has any other strange hangups no matter which operating system, please add them to this thread. One of these days, some of the "supporting" software won't any more, and we need to know when this is likely to happen.

Wait, the farmer's market isn't transit enabled right? because that would have been my first guess that it was a transit-enabled bug. But if not, it's probably more of a graphics problem. Still, it's a bizarre situation. Especially since you had to kill the console script.

I can't say I've experienced anything like that lately on Windows 7.

I am pretty sure it was a wine problem in changing the back-buffer. During a redraw this happens quite a bit and this version of wine only allocated one back buffer. I think it got itself into a tight loop in some critical section. I couldn't reproduce it (I did try) with the debugger for wine turned on, but no soap.

I've had the game randomly hang like that before. It didn't do anything to my system, but I knew the program hadn't just gotten laggy, because the CPU fan is always fairly audible while the game is running; if the CPU fan goes off, and the game screen is stuck, then it's a goner.

The most recent issue I had was plopping scotty222's latest STEX upload (Fifth Avenue Building). I oriented it to a Maxis avenue, plopped it, and just after that *ka-ching* plop sound finished it's chime, the game was dead.

    Keep calm and take photographs.
