Installation Problem With SC4D and Windows 7 x64

So several years ago, I purchased a retail copy of Sim City 4 Deluxe. Back then, I had been using it on Windows XP, which had worked fine. For some reason I felt an urge to play this game again but I now have Windows 7 Home Premium. When I run the first install disc, I enter the activation code and the installation starts normally. Then, it gets to around 25% complete and I get an error that goes something like "Could not copy *some map file* from the media" or something like that. It only happens when it gets to the San Francisco region files. Is there some way I could fix this? Is it possible to install this game manually?(i.e. copying files from the cd's)

I believe I have the same computer as you and I didn't encounter any problems so I find it strange that you and others do. It seems really hit and miss with SC4 and Windows 7. If it seems to get stuck at the SF region my solution would be go into the region folder and delete the SF folder then try the download again. Or has the download process not created the folders yet?

Your problem is probably improper storage of your disks or natural deterioration. The same thing has happened to my SimCity 4 original disks, and only my rush hour disk is any good. I am on the hook for a new copy should i have to do a full reinstall. There is something wrong with my registry right now, but I am holding out because the game still runs.

CD and DVD media are not archival. All it takes is a little heat or moisture and you can kiss that disk goodbye. The glues that hold the data substrate (the foil label) deteriorate and the foil crinkles.

You can copy all of the progam files from the CD, but then you need to try to get the game installed so the registry keys are entered.

It may well be worth the money to eliminate the frustration you are having simply to purchase an on-line copy of deluxe which comes fully patched and ready to go. It also runs without the disk.

You've said that in two posts. I think you had better elaborate.
