How can I increase the building area?

I just recently got hooked on simcity 4 but I noticed an annoying thing.

The maximum size of the square is very small. Is there a way to increase the square twice?

Thank you.

What do you mean with maximum size of the square exactly? :???:

If you want to zone a bigger area for big residentials, commercials ecc..try using CTRL..if used in combination with ALT you can either choose the direction the side of the street/road where the building will grow!!! :thumb:

Did you mean the size of the citytile?

In a region, there can be only 3 (three) different sized citytiles. Large (Blue), Medium (green) and small (red) which can be found on the bitmap file in the Regionsholder.

The region itself can be of different sizes and as big as your computer probably might support, but there's a limit there too, which I can't remember what is at the moment.

In the citytile, there are smaller tiles, called Grid, which appear and disappear by tapping on G on your keyboard while playing, these cannot be altered. Lots cover these starting with 1x1 and bigger........always increasing by 1x1.

Besides that I cannot think of any other tiles or "squares", as you call them.

mrb ;)

The parameters of the game are fixed. The only thing you can expand is the region. If you look on the STEX there are some that are very large. The limits have to do with the fact that the program is running in a finite computer and is itself a finite automaton.

You will find that as the number of objects in a tile increases, the computer time to process each pass increases exponentially. A full 4Km square tile (large city) will slow down any computer to a crawl when the population gets to be around a million Sims and the support for them. The program can only run in a single thread so all the fancy hexa-core processor will do is have 11 idle threads occasionally hiccuping to run some service process in the background.

A full 4Km square tile (large city)

I always wanted to know what a large citytile's actual (RL) size is. When you mention 4 square km's, do you mean ....

....2x2 km = 4 square km's ?

....or 4x4 km's = 16 square km's ?

Thanks

Fred

Please don't compound the situation by quoting the bad language.

Oh boy....You really need to learn how to control yourself there. This site does NOT tolorate a comment like this. If you got personal behavior problem, I recommend dearly to see a doctor or a family member and ask for help. This is not the place for this, and killing yourself doesn't solve the problem neither. It just brings it to another stage.

This game becomes bugfull when you download and install things and do not read the instructions. There are many things (files) that interfere with each other. Get yourself informed, learn and then play, (and ask for help in a more polite way)

First, this is a PG13 site, and you will probably get a vacation for posting like that. If you can't post anything sensible without all the profanity, I suggest you had better seek some real life help, because you are in trouble.

As for killing yourself, I refer to to the Bard of Avon:

"When he might his own quietus make with a bare bodkin.

"To die, to sleep, no more. To sleep. Perchance to dream!

"And in that sleep of death what dreams may come must give us pause."

Wm. Shakespeare - undoubtedly badly quoted from memory from Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.

I think it would be about 16 km^2, actually; 4 km across.

Each single tile in a city tile is 16 meters across. There are 256 in each large city tile. 256x16=4960 meters, which means 4.960 kilometers...hm.

I guess it's really closer to 5 kilometers across, 25 square kilometers in area, or about ~2.5 miles across/6.25 square miles for the United Stadians here.

    Keep calm and take photographs.

And no, you can't play an area larger than one large game tile other than by switching between them using save/close/open. That is the idea of regional play. There is no reason not to consider a region as one large urban area, but you should switch frequently to keep them in sync.

Thanks Yoschi, for clearing that up, much appreciated. ;)

Is there a program that allows you to specify the amount the region of any size to any size area?

I think you've reached the point where you need to go to the mapping forum.
