    Hello!!!

I'm sorry if I made a new topic in the wrong place but I couldn't find the right forum but I was wondering if anyone would know a website or software and also a tutorial to make a network map for a railway line. Please reply to this... :)

You want a vector graphics program. A good free one is Inkscape. A transit map is a very easy thing to do that doesn't require much advance knowledge. You could probably just use common sense and play with the interface until you figure how to make a line.

To create vector art, basically you create lines and shapes from points and give them stroke(line width, color, etc), and fill(color-in a shape) properties. A nice thing about this is that you can create an image that can be infinitely scaled without appearing blurry. Perfect for a PDF or a diagram you will put on a website.

A good software for this purpuoses is Inkscape, also Corel Draw, Krita and Adobe Illustrator are great software too. Also if you don't want to install maybe you want to try the DAMuro and SumoPaint. Including Gimp, Photoshop and MSPaint are good too. If you want ideas for a railway lines map take a look at this topic: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/38161-show-us-your-city-road-or-transit-maps-2/

If the idea of using vector graphics scares you, don't worry... it's perfectly possible to make maps using just MS Paint if you're so inclined.

    Key things you need:

    - have a specific style in mind and adhere to it consistently

    - think of your map as consisting of four key elements: straight lines, curves, stations, and text. These are your pieces, copy, modify, rotate, and assemble them to make a map.

    - for best results, stick to lines at 90 and 45 degree angles.

    - make sure everything is neat and lines up perfectly. Don't just eyeball it, zoom in and place pieces precisely.

To give you an idea of this modular concept, consider the following. This image:

contains everything you need to make this map:

    or this one:

You just need to come up with your own modular concept (feel free to use this one for practice) and learn to construct from it.
