    He folks!

I have a Dell Dimension E520 pc, when I'm playing SC4 it kinda lags and its slow.

Now I wondered whether extra memory will help?

I was thinking about this (maybe even two of this one): http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&cs=ukdhs1&sku=A1488911&baynote_bnrank=1&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSearch

I just opened the game and looked at system monitor with a city loaded, and the total memory was around 1GB with a big chunk of it on the swap (paging) file. I don't have much by way of plugins, they occupy 287.1MB on disk, and I am sure somewhat less in core. I have 4GB of memory of which 512MB is taken by my GPU, and I don't have a problem.

Before you blow your money on memory, think about how much swap space you have. I have 16GB (it is a complete partition) which is easy for me because I run on Linux.

At the time I scoped the game, it was running a processor at 99%. If you are on a laptop or notebook, you might give some thought to overheat slowdowns too. Intel's latest CPUs do that if they get too hot.

To find out if you are having problems with memory, take a look at your disk indicators (you should have lights or something). If they are flashing a lot when the game is running, them some more physical memory might help, but don't bet on it. Because of the kind of program this is, you can expect it to start slowing down as the number of objects increases. The bigger your network the worse it is. If you have reached the knee of the exponential curve the slowdown starts to get quite serious very quickly. The only answer to this is a faster CPU since the program single threads only. Because of the exponential nature of the program, a faster CPU won't help much.

Give some thought to what this program is doing for you. It is a leisure time activity and you shouldn't drive it like Stirling Moss, flat out, all the time. Put it in second gear and enjoy the automation and the animation. Quite fascinating things happen in your city if you take the leisure to watch them happen at a slower pace. I often run in low gear when I have a mature city that I am just tweaking because I enjoy some of the neat automata I have picked up.

2GB is enough, 4 is more than you will use. Unless you have a 64 bit OS, then with 4GB you will only get 3.5 usable GB, which is still more than you will use.
