Hey guys, i've taken up my first project of building a city, due to the fact that I am new blah blah blah.. you've heard it all before. Anways i've supplied a few pictures and i want to know your thoughts, advice, ideas or anything that can help create even just a successful, stable city. thanks!

Here's a zoom in on my hopeful CBD, i'm planning to keep it as flowing as possible with plenty of access to tram stops and the nearest RHW. I'm not sure how to go about zoning this bad boy but i'm still working on the interchange system as of yet.

here is a zoom out of my main interchange system, i'm aiming for a basic stretch with as much entries/exits as possible. Have no idea about how to plan underground transit etc, probably going to need help with that!

- so thanks for your time and feel free to have a crack at me if i've done anything wrong etc, cheers.

An interesting testbed. Is there any reason you did not connect the east/west highways to the avenue circle on the left?

I think you've got the point, but I don't understand the road crossing with only one tile projecting beyond the avenue. You don't need this if you are trying to create a lane for U-turns, just a single road tile in the median of the avenue will do it. And what is the single street tile doing?

I like the use of the TRAM in avenue quite a bit. I've been using it as of late since subways make it hard to admire your networks. I wouldn't have done it until I realized how much light rail existed in the USA, and my city is an entirely North American styled freelance.

Are you going to use money mods or anything, or are you going the old fashioned route? I ask because you said you would be zoning; if you're playing without cheats I'm afraid you just wasted a whole bunch of Simoleans. Nothing the Moolah xxxx command can't fix, assuming you've got the extra cheats.dll from Buggi, but that's IF you're wiling to use it. You could always pretend it's a loan or something and pay it back later. :P

Keep calm and take photographs.

^ WRT the Extra Cheats.dll, I use moolah to set the treasury on any city I start to 500000. I always play on hard and I don't believe in running farms until the cows come home. I am also not averse to using moolah to give a (forgivable) grant in aid if the city runs out of money. Sometimes I take it back after the recovery. You just have to remember that moolah replaces the treasury balance, and does not increment nor decrement it.

unless you're strapped for cash don't continue with the tram system, plus anyways you need to connect that tram system to ether the subway system of elevated rail, so you sims can commute to work. Building tram lines are expensive and time consuming not to mention frustrating. However though trams unlike railways don't take up space if you use them on tram-on-street, but there is one draw back to trams, unlike subways and rails, they don't have much capacity. I have a city of 420k and only use my trams in my downtown, and each station is over capacity three times. For right now i'd stop the tram network you have it at, until you see how many sims use it.

Are you saying that the tram system actually won't function without elevated rail connections to subway?

    - Also i'm not caring much for money, i just used the cash park and got like 4 billion dollars. Do you guys just plop $%&^! in your cities? i thought it was alot of zoning,

^ the trams will operate if you provide proper loops.

I don't use money parks because they take up space and you don't need that much income. Moolah can be used any time if you run into fiscal problem. You just look at the treasury balance and change it to reflect whatever increment you need.

Take a look at the DAMN. A menuing system that I personally don't use, but has a good reputation. The other defense is a large monitor like my 24" one.
