Power Error (Arrgh!)

Can anyone help with this?  One of my cities has developed the inability to deliver power no matter what plants I place or lines I provide.  The utilities funding always drops to ZERO after a few seconds of game play, and in the power sub menu there is an entry that says Error: No Name.  I removed a BATed power station (it works fine in other cities), but that did not help.  I recently installed the NAM, could that be it?

Where would I look to find and remove a bug like this?

Thanks in advance!

I recently encountered an issue similar to this myself. For some reason, despite more than enough power existing & travelling along the powerlines, for some odd reason the flow of power decided to just stop in its tracks. I ended up having to run some powerlines from another direction, before an isolated area I had set-up, was powered. I've yet to pin point the cause of the problem in my latest case, but it's not the first time I've seen power just ceasing to flow. I've previously seen a (Maxis original) highway cloverleaf cause power to cease flowing through powerlines. I can only surmise that because Powerlines are technically considered a network, that they may sometimes suffer routing problems of some kind, much like other networks do.

In your case though, as you've pointed out some issues with some Bats, I guess it may be possible that they might be causing a problem. But without a pic it's hard to grasp the issue really.

I'm having a similar problem, it just started happening tonight in one of my cities (only one out of the region). In fact I just hopped on here to see if anyone else had seen the same thing - it's extremely frustrating! What's happening is the power funding at my power plants is dropping every month on its own. It happens at every power plant, every differnt type, and also at the main funding slider in the budget. I can crank it all the way up, put the game on fast, and then bring up the funding box - and watch it slide down every month on its own! What the heck? Is this one of the downloaded buildings causing this? It's not a transmission problem, but a generating problem...Arrrgh!!!

    Thanks Tropod,

I did place a cloverleaf Prior to the problem so I'll check to see if that is the issue. Actually MTBIKEWNC is describing my problem exactly.  It's not a transmission problem, it's a no funding leading to a no generation problem.  Give me a moment to fine tune the RL and I'll be back with some pics.

BTW, MTBIKEWNC, Have you downloaded anything recently from the STEX?

I tried the bulldoze, cover w/ roads, bulldoze roads trick. B/C in the sub menu when I click on the entry it goes to where one of the power plants had been.  It did not work. Can I delete the city without disrupting the region? (I really don't like the way it had been developing anyway.)

Incidentally How do I attach a snapshot onto this message? The attach file button dosen't seem to work.

    Cool I'll know next time.

In any case,I simply obliterated the city, as I couldn't fix the bug.  I read a couple of posts from other players who had similar problems.  No one had a fix other than to detonate and begin again 11.gif(very apocalyptic)12.gif.

Seems it is caused by deleting a BAT from your plugins, and then playing the city it was in without bulldozing the BAT first.  The game keeps on expecting it to be there. Maybe the game is angry, who knows.  Anyway this is a GREAT reason to organize your plugins folder.

I gave up on the troublesome BAT. But I like the MOD. It's vaguely totalitarian.

For the funding problem please check this post.

I also had this problem. It can occur for EVERY kind of building with adjustable funding, education, health, police, power plants etc.

I think I have found a way to FIX this (at least it DID WORK for me). Suppose that you face this problem for your power plants. You need to take the following steps:
    1. Backup your city (copy the city file somewhere else).
    2. Go to all of your power plants and set funding to zero. The budget for your power department will become zero as well.
    3. Ignore the negative effects (blackouts, strikes etc), they are going to last only for one month (you may also consider to import power for a month or so).
    4. Start running the city (preferably at medium speed) and wait until the month CHANGES* (cross the month boundary).
    5. Stop the simulator, set funding to normal and save your city.
    6. Exit and reload, YOU MUST NOW BE OK!!!

    * I'm not sure when this works, if it does not try running your city (with the dept budget set to zero) for a FULL month, eg if you started at 05/14/04 wait until at least 06/15/04. Retry using the backup.

Could anybody having this problem verify if this procedure works please?

i had this same type of problem in one of my cities where the funding
kept droping until it was nothing on the power plants and then the city
went out of power i kept bulldozing and replacing them but it still kept
doing it what happened was i accidently deleted a power plant lot i
downloaded from the stex which happened to be in that city at the time
and it screwed the city up and so there was nothing i could do to fix it i
even try replacing the plugin but it didn't work the city file was already
damaged so i ended up having to restore the city with an old backup i
had of it i didn't have to replace the region.

That's exactly what happened.  I even tried to replace the plugin in the same spot. No avail. God forbid it happens again I'll try your fix.

I also never thought to back up my cities before. I'll be doing that today.

However, I'm glad it happened. First I have now posted enough to achieve Passerby status (Woo Hoo!!!) And, I really disliked the terrain I had for that part of my region; It stymied growth. Now I have new terrain and a really nice city with a poulation of ~117K after about 2h of play. So all's well that end well.

Please don't revive a thread that is this old.

If you don't have a backup, either obliterate your city or remove it from the region folder.
