Nitelites will always turn on, but the buildings will look funny if you mismatch the BATs and night modds. But they'll still turn on and the game continues to function as if nothing happened.

TruNite is a different way of rendering nights which allows for a much better image quality.

MaxisNite and DarkNite are different flavors of TruNite. One blends in with the default light blue Maxis Nite, and DarkNite blends in with SimFox's Day 'n' Nite Modd (and in general other nite modds).

Before those night modds existed, there was no reason to differentiate between different types of TruNite (MaxisNite and DarkNite) because there was only one version, the MaxisNite version. So if an older BAT is listed as TruNite and doesn't say whether it's MaxisNite or DarkNite, it's probably MaxisNite. Either way it won't hurt your game, the worst that could happen is if you're using a night modd, MaxisNite buildings will appear to glow, because they're made brighter for the default night environment, and if you use a DarkNite BAT without a night modd, it will look really dark at night.
