Anyone have any luck with the modding tool?

I've been looking around he 2012 official forum, and it looks like it requires a four year old version of $3,495 software. Anyone have any luck with something else?

Does anyone know where to acquire the 2008 version?

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:

I saw on xlnation.net that there is a discussion about other (free) tools that can be used and how to get started.

    $139.90 Nice, but most people on here got this game for $15.00. The stuff is abandonware.

    I am certain that some SimCity 4 modders have used 3DsMax here so it might mean a plethora of new content adjusted from SimCity 4 form to Cities XL form. The quality and performance of these transfers will also prove which method is better for Boomtown.

    Focus is likely to release some sort of update to the modding tool.. But it still might require 3dsmax 2008. They're fixing something else.
