Avast! gave me a virus warning from a topic...

It informed me it blocked malicious URLs, namely:

Attempting to go to either results in something called a "favicon.ico" attempting to download itself. Avast! also blocked this.

Since I have all advertising blocked, along with a plugin designed to block whatever Opera doesn't, I suspect this is coming from Simtropolis itself.

Refreshing the page occasionally loads a "clean" one, without the malicious URLs, but also regularly loads a "dirty" one. There is a possibility this is a false alarm; virus scanners are known for that. However, this is consistent enough that I feel it has to be made public for the computing safety of all involved. Of course, also to inform the administrators so that they can look into it.

Well those images probably came from a site that has a virus or is known to have had one before.

A favicon.ico is the little icon that appears beside the name of a page in the tab and in your favorites/bookmarks.

I can go to all of these links and nothing happens, it doesn't try to download anything on my computer.

Perhaps your computer has a virus that is causing this. I recommend you run a full virus scan.

I run CLAM-AV and don't get any of this. I agree with Jack, it is full scan time, and do it off-line.

I did virus scans as a precaution, using three different scanners (Including Avast!): Nothing.

Ergo, as neither of you have encountered anything, I am wagering Avast! had a false positive.

Those images appear to be ELEMENT's avatar and signature. I'd go with false positive as well.

Have you tried updating avast, both the program and the engine and virus definitions, then running a customized full scan? It would be wise to have it scan everything. Just click more details and change the settings. If that does not work than try a customized boot time scan. Change the settings to scan pretty much every thing.
