65 Girls At Area School Pregnant
School To Unveil Three-Prong Program

CANTON, Ohio -- There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant, NewsChannel5 reported.

Some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame.

School officials are not sure what has contributed to so many pregnancies, but in response to them, the school is launching a three-prong educational program to address pregnancy, prevention and parenting.

WEWS also reported that students will face mounting tensions created by unplanned child-rearing responsibilities, causing students to quit school and plan for a GED. This will make it difficult for the Canton City School District to shake its academic watch designation by the state.

According to the Canton Health Department, statistics through July show that 104 of the 586 babies born to Canton residents in Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center had mothers between 11 and 19.

WEWS discovered that the non-Canton rate was 7 percent. Canton was 15 percent.

Cleveland's rate is 20 percent.

Tch, next thing you know people are going to start blaming global warming on video games.

We just live in a blame-everyone-and-everything-but-ourselves society. Last time I checked, the only thing that causes pregnancy is sex. Have sex, get pregnant, or get your girlfriend pregnant, your fault. If you're underage, the parents are also culpable to an extent. But that's where it ends.

Consider Japan, who's teen pregnancy rate is much lower than any western country, and which has some of the most pornographic video games in existence.

lol, perhaps it's the addiction of GTA-SA, making the guys spread their genes via the electronic network?

If anything, video games prevent sex, because those that play them are not out having sex.

My guess is that the Canton school district teaches abstinence-only sex ed, like the entire state of Texas. That is something you can blame for a high teen birth rate, because there is nothing humane you can do to stop people from having sex. Maybe students don't have to learn how to put a prophylactic on a banana, but teenagers do need to know about birth control.

That can be debated. There was recent evidence shown that your brain treats vidio games as reality so in real life peaple may respond to situations like they do in the vidio game and it goes on from there...

This was more a poorly-worded joke than anything. I was making a joke at the nerdy virgin demographic, which I belong to.

Though, so few video games have sex in them that your responses to situations won't even conflict.

A little principle so often ignored: Correlation does not equal causation!
In otherwords,  just b/c two or more things happen together doesn't mean that one caused the others!

Joe, that couldn't be more spot-on. It is just so much easier to blame something unrelated than to actually accept responsibility for something.

I read it in sevaral newspapers so there is definatley somthing to it alougth I coudent find anything about it. Your claim that so few games have sex is irelavant as this investigation includes all things that happens in games, not just sex.
