Reproducible CTD

Well, today I got a CTD of the usual kind, but it was reproducible. I isolated it to adding a single tile to a street after several game restarts. Has anyone else had a situation like this where you could not continue the city as intended? My city is not corrupted since I can restart it with no problem.

If no one is interested in this, I'll find a work around in about a week.

Something similar happened to me recently; I'm sure I posted about it in the 'Issues w/ Large Cities?' thread of mine. In particular, I would place a roundabout, the game would crash. Perhaps that's a bit more on the 'complex, third party infrastructure' side, but still, always the roundabout, always the same location I tried to plop it in. Hit CTRL+S and I'd see my desktop wallpaper in a few seconds. Needless to say I wasn't amused. :boggle:

Don't know if this applies in either of the above cases, but it is possible that using a tree mod that places non-default trees in the city could create this situation. Removing the tree mod plugin without demolishing the trees first could cause a crash. Without the mod (including the tree model file), the space is still "reserved" (if that's the correct word) as a tree even though it won't be visible. Any type of plopping that alters the terrain of this "reserved" space might cause a crash. Just a thought...

I've been kicking around this theory myself. One of my cities recently 'destabilized' and after some thought, I remembered that it has had a lot of plugin interchange; that is, I would remove plugins but leave the lots or whatever sitting in this city. It probably brought it to its knees; every other save meant a CTD. No problems with it since I started from scratch. I now have a delete-before-delete policy...removing from the city before removing from my plugins suite.

Hmmm. I have recently added PEG's MTP tree mods, but I haven't removed them. Taking a thing like that out really means scrapping the region it is in. However, my work around will be simply to move the road over a couple of tiles to see if this makes a difference. Will probably try it later in the week.

I am actually committed to that tree mod, as it makes my cities look more like the native forest around here.

And the work around was bulldozing the trees on either side of the desired path. I guess there were tree roots in the way.

So apparently, the trees were causing SC4 to CTD? Serves 'em right that they were bulldozed then :P

The interesting point is the scope of the trees. There were none on the tile I wanted to use, but they were on both sides of it. This is the PEG MTP tree mod.

Oh my God Im so happy I read this.

I've been having constant CTD's on one of my tiles and was driving me crazy why none of the fixes were working

I remember removing a solitary dat file for a tree plop so replaced it.

The game is no longer crashing and is working fine again :-)

The file was part of the 'BSC Props Jeronij Vol 3 Trees Seasonal Woods'

Further to this, I discovered that my Region was suffering from bit loss disease, and cities started disappearing. It is an old region, so I simply rerendered it and started over. I was getting bored with it anyway. The first city of the new region is doing fine, thank you, and in the black. If you are running a default gray-scale map, the game will happily rerender it without deleting the old cities.
