    2011 Nobel Peace Prize

I think, all things considered including the past record of this committee, they got it right this time.

Yes, I realize that Yemen is not in Africa, but I needed a brief headline.

They were recognised for their "non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace-building work".

    Excellent!

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Why they threw the Jemenite in there, I haven't really understood yet. She's a vocal rebel to the oppressing regime, but it's not like they've ended Apartheid or transformed Yemen to a place of sunshine and happiness yet. As far as I know, Yemen haven't been further from peace than this in a good while. Kudos to the Liberian women, though. A little "shame" that it was announced a mere week before the Liberian presidental election, though. Liberia had the date planned well in advance, and the Nobel committee had a deadline to follow. Shame they clashed, as I think the political climate in Liberia will be somewhat sourer now.

But apart from that, it's nice to have a non-controversial prize handed out again. The last two where handed out for "disagreeing with the government" and "not being George Bush", essentially.
