Moving Regions From City to City in SC4

I first started playing SC4 on my old laptop, and filled up an entire region. I'm extremely proud of this region and want to copy it over to my new laptop and my desktop, but when I copy and replace the region ffolder (Timbuktu btw) from my old laptop to my new, the old region doesnt appear. Is it even possible to move regions from computer to computer?

I've tried something like this before but only some cities showed up. You should just copy your region on to a flash drive, rename the region folder, and paste it into your regions folder. I might try this if I can find a flash drive somewhere in my house :whatevs:

It 'should' be possible to do what you're trying. A couple of things to keep in mind. Since you're using a default game region, you'll want to remove the Timbuktu region on the new computers. If you simply over-write the existing Timbuktu, the city files may not have the same name and won't over-write the existing files. This could lead to scrambled files that don't appear properly in the game. Also, make sure you are placing the old region in the My Documents game Region folder, not the one in the Program Files game folder. Just a thought...

I successfully transferred all of my game files, regions, plugins, everything from a desktop, to a blank CD, and then to a Laptop with no errors. All you have to do is keep everything inside a region folder as it is, and move the entire region folder into the new regions directory on your second computer. The game should read it regardless of what computer you have it on.

Using a flash drive:

Step 1: Go to your "documents/simcity4/regions" folder, copy the region folder you want to take, the region folder, not the city files inside it, and paste it in your flash drive.

Step 2: plug it into your second computer, then open the new simcity 4/regions directory, and paste your region folder inside there. Don't replace anything. Just copy it over.

Should be just those two steps. Step 3 would be to run the game, and look for the region in the region menu. Game should read the new folder and everything. Relatively the same process if using a blank CD. I did my way using the CD, which is a bit more unnecessarily complicated. Flash drive is easier to use.

Hope you find progress with this!

That's fine if both the old and new regions have not been developed. However, if the old region has been developed (with named cities), the old city files will not copy over the new ones because the new ones will be named "City-New City..." This would result in double files and the game may not load the copied ones but the empty ones that were originally in the folder. In this case, the new region would need to be removed before pasting the old one in the Regions folder.

Timbuktu is a tutorial region and has a special relationship to the program. If you have a developed version of this region that you want to transfer you must rename it to something else like El Alamein, and fix the name in the Region.ini file as well. This should detach the region from the game's tutorial.

There are still some funny things about that particular region, and much as I like the terrain, I think that in general it should be avoided as a play region.
