Ran into a 'snag' with demand.

Hello All,

After re cooperating from a previous mistake on my city, i decided to start again a few days back, this time I exceeded my expectations by a long shot. My suburb was producing around 5000 profit each month, very few houses were unemployed or abandoned, i had an avenue full of commercial shops and i had surrounding industrial cities connected to the region.

In the suburb, all my needs are cared for, I have well educated sims twinned with health, police and fire coverage. HT Demand has brought in its reward in my industrial town's, but I feel as if somewhere along the way, I have done something wrong.

Going back to my suburb, i find out im now breaking even on profit, gradually slipping over and under my budget. There are noticably, more pockets of unemployment but only just. Strangest thing is however, in one of the four industrial cities i have in my region, HT demand does not exist.

If anyone could give me a push in the direction I should go to rectify this, I'd be really grateful. Thank you.

EDIT*: Also, I unlocked the main library, but I placed it in the wrong place in my city. I bulldozed the original but now i can't build a new one, the reward is locked and displays the 'how to unlock' message.

I'm confused. Have you zoned High-Tech in the industrial towns?

The reason you lost money is probably because you are no longer generating tax dollars from the abandoned homes. The only other reason I can think of is that a neighbor deal got deactivated because of a lack of resources.

That one city probably doesn't have High-Tech demand because the desirability isn't high enough.

So to fix the problem, zone more industrial.

And I believe that library problem is a glitch in the game, you will not be able to place it again.

How old is the city? If it is over 100 you should check your population by age graph. If it is skewed to the right, you need to add some young Sims, which means dirty industry jobs have to be available close to where they live, even if it is in the next town. Neighborhoods are not static, you have to watch out for them aging out and dying off. This is a cause of abandonment.

There is also a display showing the average age in given areas.

It seems few of us look at the overall picture, and try to patch one or another problem. This is the old problem of trying to fix the monkey. When you take the big brass screw out of his navel, the other end falls off.

Don't try to zero in on one problem. Take a nexial approach and look at all your indicators. You are expected to handle over 100 variables in this program, and it takes a deft hand.

Don't be afraid to do some urban renewal on older neighborhoods. Once you get it going well, the whole thing becomes cyclic.

    Secondly, yes my suburb is pretty old. Its around 47 years old with the majority of citizens in the 51-60 age gap. I have surrounding industrial and smaller suburbs, with partial low level commerical zones for suburban areas.

    If what your saying will help, will re creating old neighbourhoods reset the resident's age to young?

    Not necessarily. The trick is to attract younger Sims. Take a look at the average age display, and see where the dark blue blocks are. This is your old timers. You want to find some why to add to the area and turn it green.

    Look at your neighborhood, and especially your schools. If the enrollment is low, build new accommodation around them, and if necessary build new $$ or $$$ accommodation perhaps further out. Do lots of saves, and do this experimentally until you get it right.
