Commuting time (HIIIIGH)

I've always been struggling with the traffic problems.

Since recently (and im not a experienced simcity player) i found a proper way on using my infrastructure. Lots of straight line crossing avenues with one way roads really seemed to do the trick. I have a dozen of occupied skyrises in my city and the traffic density chart shows almost all roads as green (less to no traffic density)

I mix residential with commerce with high industrial, with bus stops with subways, with monorails connecting my foreign regions. And I have all ground highways at the most strategic places possible. Yet about 9/10 households report a long commuting time.

When i put one of my sims in any home (UNless im going to be very selective on the few that dont) it always complains about long commute times.

Its sickening as I do everything in my power to make commute distances as low as possible and traffic accesability as high as possible.

Almost any commerce center is within walking distance from any housing block. While I in real life have to travel a few miles to do my shopping. It realy overdone IMHO.

I worked my ass around, and I must say, it rewarded me in form of skyscrapers and wealthy orderly environment.

Yet you have to need a dubai masterplan are you capable of creating 50% short commute distances to all your sims.

I know traffic is a problem in this game.

But real life citys qualify for having low commutes time (mostly not all, but they exist)

so why is it (for me atleast) impossible to create a perfect infrastructure.

And if im missing out on some key aproaches, id be happy to hear them.

Commute time is an experience. Wealthy sims are complaining earlier about the commute time than poor sims. Looking at the graph which shows which jobs there are and how the population looks like (don't know how it's called in English, I haven't installed English) might be helpful. Furthermore, the sims aren't probably working in the facilities next door, if you want to know that for sure you'll have to look at the travel paths (just click on one of the houses with the travel-path tool or use the dll cheat, the topic with cheats is pinned in 'general discussion' ). Also, what we think is reasonable to walk isn't always reasonable in Simcity, your sims walk at most two blocks to a subway station or another public transport hub. You could look at how spread out your subway-stations, bus stops etc. are.

If you have found something in these things which doesn't match up with your wishes you could look at a solution.

You could post what you've found here, I'll try to help you with your problem. ;)

What helps massively is using the ULTRA simulator in the NAM. This increases the capacity of your networks to levels much more suited for high density development. It's also worth noting that R$$$ sims are picky and will wreck your commute time if you have alot of them, which you probably will because they overide the much more useful R$ & R$$. Counter this by raising taxes to say 12% and then bulldoze the lot of them. As a rule I don't let R$$$ grow in my cities at all, apart from some designated areas in which solely the rich live.

Ill be honest it is so hard to get rid of this. Creating a surplus of jobs actually helps, making it easy for sims to get to work, provided the jobs are close. Make nehboring with alot of work, create a layout of your city, making the streets and avenues, then zone inside the layout. Note that your city could be perfectly normal and built rigt, but be a mess of commute time in the simcity world because high wealth residents areazy as hell.zone your high wealth near eachother hope this helps.
