Hi all,

Please excuse me if anyone has brought this up before, or if this topic is in the wrong location.

For my City Journal, I would like to use an external image hosting website to share my photos, but I would like to know what (free) websites you would recommend for this. I have been thinking about several options, including Flickr, Picasa, ImageShack or Photobucket, but if any of you can recommend a particular website, I would be glad to hear about it.

Thanks in advance. 49.gif

I use ImageShack, and haven't had any problems with it.

I haven't ever hit the limit, but most of my pictures are only between 100 and 200 KB. :P

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

You actually have a few options here. Its really up to your personal preference of what you want to use.

Imageshack: Possibly the most well known and reliable image hosting website. Just a bit of a pain to upload them because you need to be logged in first.

Imgur: Starting to become well known and a new favourite for many. No need to log in and its easy to upload because there is a drag and drop feature.

Minus: Not well known, but its one of my favourites. Just really simple to use. The only problem here is reliability issues with the server.

With the switch over to ST7, I've reverted to using the web space provided by my ISP. I control what images are there assiduously, and delete old images as needed. This may cause some of my old posts to lose the images, but since no one looks at older posts, I don't worry about it.

However, everyone should be aware that all uploaded files should be .jpg format. The default for most applications these days is .png because of the very high quality, but these load very much slower on a web page.

While the restriction on image size has been lifted, I still make mine a max of 800 px wide. Be nice! Some people are still on dial-up.

I recommend photobucket. Simple, easy to use interface.

I don't know if I've got any webspace?!?! And I like to catch up on older posts...

    Interesting...

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll digest this for a while and sort it out soon... 44.gif

Photobucket has horrible bandwidth issues. I use Majhost because it has great organization (you can zip up a folder and upload the whole folder at once if you'd like) and also is speedy and reliable.

Photobucket is good for cjs, but I've seen a lot of "image removed" on images uploaded with Photobucket and left for a while. I think I used it for all 4 of my crappy CJs, though, and they're still up, but it still wouldn't be my first choice. Imageshack is what I use now, you can use it without an account and most of my posts have only one or two images anyway so I don't need them all in an album. And there's always flickr, Majhost, Picasa and all the other ones mentioned. See what works best for you.
