harmless but persistent graphic oddity ("artifacts"?)

Every now and then, I get things like this:

That's the community college (minus parking) and one of the lovely Dutch windmills, sitting happily on the side of the city. This is the clearest version of this bug I've had so far. It never causes crashing, but it's odd. I also get similar overlays of buildings (or roads, sometimes) on the cursor, or road markings instead of zones. This seems to be a harmless bug, but is there anything I can do to stop it? Sometimes they float around instead of clouds, which gets *really* annoying.

I'm running SC4 Rush Hour on a MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.8). I've been getting problems like this since I first started playing, even before I discovered modding.

I'm not sure about this, but this may be because (in some cases) SimCity on Intel Macs like yours does not run properly, owing to the fact that SC4 is a native PowerPC app. If you don't mind taking a slight risk, you could try installing the Aspyr Universal Binary beta (copying the folder ~ (User Name)/Documents/SimCity 4 onto your desktop would be recommended, in case anything goes wrong).

This update hasn't been know, as I have heard, to improve the program, but it is required if you wish to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion (10.7), and it may help with any other problems. Aspyr have not taken any further action, so this is all we will probably get... 26.gif

But anyway, if you do attempt this, let us know what happens. You never know, you could be helping a number of other users! 44.gif

With that version of the MAC O/S you could run the standard windows version of SC4 Deluxe under wine. wine runs in practically any UNIX-like decor.

I've just downloaded the free trial of CrossOver, the wine - er - GUI? I know I installed wine earlier, because I have Boxer and can play old DOS games, and to do that you need wine, IIRC.

Hopefully I'll remember to update this thread on how CrossOver performs.

If you are sure you have wine, the command to run the x86 version .exe for SC4 is

    wine "C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off

Plus any other command line options you need.

Of course you need to install SC4 and patch it to get it into the wine environment. wine keeps a dummy windows environment and programs running under it need to be installed. The above command line will appear in the installation short-cut.

Yeah when I was running SC4 on Intel, it had all sorts of graphical problems, plus was super-slow, too.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~
