I've been wondering since I do not see any adverts on this website does this website actually advertise or is it a problem with my computer. If the site doesn't advertise why doesn't it because by sticking a little google ad at the bottom of the page the website could afford better servers and then remaining revenue could be donated to charity or something.

If my grammar is terrible since it is 23:05 in England basicly does simtropolis advertise and if not why doesn't it.

No adverts right now. Sure we would get used to them if implemented by I like the "no advert atmosphere"

The only adverts are "Download CitiesXL" and the STEX collections ones, I think ST6 had some Google text links.

I think they tried that, but if I remember right everyone hated it. I certainly would, one of the reasons I love this site is the lack of ads.

I wouldn't mind having adverts if they could have better servers, a little google banner at the top would do me, if adverts were put in we could have better servers and donate money to a good cause and if it really would be a problem they could be made optional via your profile.

It is not very likely that they will return, they generate such little money that they barely cover domain name costs, they sometimes get infected and most people block them with ABP. Given the choice most people would block all, or some, TV advertisements.

Not enough to be worth the trouble of debugging the code. I use AdBlock anyway, so I don't really care.

I use adblock too but wouldn't you unblock them on this website since its a small community website.

Way way back in the day there was a banner swearing that there would be "No ads ever!" Then it stopped being possible to pay for the site using donations alone, and the policy changed. Apparently now it's changed back, though I hadn't noticed since, like Nonny, I have Adblock Plus.

...except of course when I'm on my phone. Must say, the mobile site is pretty funky!

While most pages on the site appear to not have ads, the forum index does. (Along the right side between the "Recent Status Updates" and the "Recent STEX files" boxes.)

Nope, I have absolutely no intention of clicking any internet advertisement ever, most are either scams or malware anyway. I will use the better method of buying STEX discs or donating, I have 1-3 and intend to buy 4.

I don't click on them but quite often they are based on impressions so just by viewing them and ignoring what they say the webmaster earns money.

They also face risk of their account being banned. It is better for people to just save up some money and buy a STEX disc or donate it, the new one comes out in four days anyway.

If too many people click adverts for no reason then Google, in this case, will think that the owner told them to do that to bump up the income. As I said, get the STEX disc, $30 for a disc is much better than ~$1 every ~1000 impressions.

I don't click on them I just view them and if something from a legitimate company (eurotunnel, ferry lines) catches my eye I have a look at it. The problem with the discs is that some people are not in the position to donate money due to fact that they may not have money, no method to pay online/not willing to use credit cards or too young to donate as this site is used by under 18's.

Why is being under 18 a problem?

You also don't need to donate $10+ you can donate anything, even 1(insert currency here) would be more generous than clicking an advert.

Really I currently have it unblocked on this website. I overestimated the morals of this community and now feel down. If people are like this I think it is a bad idea to put adverts in.

Don't feel bad. I personally cannot stand web advertising.
