Game Crashes after opening City

Hey folks,

I play SC4 Deluxe and had it for quite a while. It's been working fine till now. Every time i open a city (already built), it crashes. It shows where I last had the screen last time I played, but it freezes then, after a few seconds, it goes back to the desktop. Imhave an HP laptop. It's VISION AMD Windows 7 . I've recently downloaded SCAG's A332 and A333 gates as well as NAM's Single track.

Besides the stuff you recently downloaded do you have any other previous downloads? Can you do anything after you open your city or does it freeze the moment your city opens? Try moving those 3 downloads to your desktop or any other place to see if it works then...

OK, let's find out if its plugin trouble at all. Rename your plugin fold to Plugins.old and start the game. Open the city, ignoring any brown boxes. Does it run then?

If not, you've probably stepped on the game.

Please look at your Exception Reports folder, pick the latest text copy, open it in notepad and copy the first 20 lines and post them here.

This will tell us a few things about both your game version and your machine that would otherwise take a lot of explaining. Thanks.

Just to add, when I opened the city it showed a warning message. it's something about a plugin package or something. However, the game still didn't work.

You don't have the EP1 update from Maxis. You need to download and install that before we can do anything.

It doesn't say EP1, but that is what it's called. To get it do this:

1. Select I Accept the terms --> proceed to Maxis Tools and Updates on the bottom of that page.

2. If you have the vanilla version, click on SC4 Update( Original Version). If you have deluxe or Rush Hour, select SC4 Update( Rush Hour / Deluxe Version)

3. Follow the instructions to update.

Version 610 is Rush Hour/Deluxe SKU 1.

He is running Window 7 with lots of memory.

Select the update for the North American region.

And put your plugins back.

Alright I got the game updated, but where do I find the following to see if they got updated or not?:

SimCity 4.exe

Graphics Rules.sgr

and SimCity 1-4.dat

Alright I got the game updated, but where do I find the following to see if they got updated or not?:

and SimCity 1-4.dat

C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps is the folder for the game executable. You might have to back up one folder to see the others. The only file you are really interested in for verification is SimCity 4.exe. Hover your mouse over it, and see what the version number is. If it is 638 you have correctly updaed with EP1.
