For most people (me included) SC4 runs just as well under Win 7 as it does under XP. The SC4Tool will run, but it's a little buggy.

If you've got a decent system and your Win 7 edition is Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate, you can download XP mode and run them under that until you work out a solution.

If you mean it freezes and crashes when you click on a button, this is how I fix my problem. :D

Hey there, this is not only just a Windows 7 problem but also a Windows Vista problem I have solved my issue by going to "Start, right click on Computer in the start menu, go to Properties and a window will show up, on the right of that window go to Advanced System Settings, a small pop up will come up and then click on Settings in the area where it say Performance, once you see another pop up that comes up look for the words Enable Desktop Composition and uncheck that and press apply and ok. That's it. Once you finished using the SC4 Tool go back to thet same place and check the Enable Desktop Composition and press apply and ok. :D

That's how I solved my issue. :D

I'm not sure about Vista, but I do know in Windows 7 that you can change it so it always runs specific programs with desktop composition disabled.

1. Right-Click on the program's desktop shortcut and select properties.

2. Switch to the compatibility tab

3. Select Disable Desktop Composition

Sounds odd. Check your graphics control panel in Windows. Make sure that all the options for your graphics card are set to "application selected" or equivalent wording. Most people on W7 run without difficulty.

It won't work on my computer unless I do this.

    Memory? Swap Space?

You could set the option -CPUCount:1 in your short cut. Note that options are always preceded by one space. Did you check your graphic card settings? All must be on "application selected" or equal words.

No. It is the dedicated file in your windows residency with an extension of swp. The easiest way for us all to see this is this way:

Open your run box and type in dxdiag then press enter.

Take a screen shot of the first page you get, and post it.

You can then close this program, or play around diagnosing your multi-meida.

No, you will have to upload the image to a hosting site and then post the direct link in your post.

No, you will have to upload the image to a hosting site and then post the direct link in your post.

    The information is sufficient now.

It is still not completely clear what happens when you try to start. Messages about polygons don't make sense. Have you run a virus scan lately?

Yeah everyday. Polygon disaster is just like a big building become huge red triangle when you move the camera.

The only two things that come to mind are memory dearth, which seems unlikely, or your graphics card has a problem. Funny graphics can occur in hardware rendering mode if you don't have enough memory to satisfy the needs of the program to switch frame buffers fast enough. In hardware mode, I get all kinds of colored garbage when my city gets over a certain size because my system will only allocate one back buffer to the program. This does not occur in software rendering, which has other, easily overcome, problems.

When this occurs, have you tried asking for a redraw by flicking the grid on and off (g key)? This causes the program to redraw the screen with or without the grid depending on the state of the toggle.

This really sounds like a hardware problem. To cut down the number of back references, now that we are 20 pages in, would you please post the following (again, if you already have).

On your new machine, open the run box and type dxdiag then press enter. This opens the mutli-media diagnostics. Please snapshot and post the first page displayed by this program.

Continue running the diagnostics and see if you have any problems with the video section. Report if there are problems given in this. I don't take any nonsense from any computer. They are machines and are designed to do what they are told.

Yes, thanks. For your non-standard resolution setting have you put in the

    -CustomResolution:enabled -r1360x768

option in the command line of your short cut. Note that these two options are required for screens like yours.

Your options are like words in a sentence and are separated from the rest of the line by one space each.

I think this will fix your problem.
