This happened last weekend. It's sad to see something like this happen. :(

WTH is going on with all the stage collapses.

one in Belgium today killed 5 people as well, then the Cheap trick show in Ottawa in July.

Wonder if they will ever prove shoddy construction or was there too much dammage to tell.

It seems they are just not able to withstand the weather. But outdoor, temporary stages are not new. What has changed? Is there any word on whether or not these things have to be inspected?

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Probably do have to be inspected. I blame the people running it though, though its probably not all their fault as the Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued like, 10 minutes before it collapsed.

    EDIT: I guess a 6th person died.

Well, I can't speak for other venues, but in Canada the Ministry of Labor inspects all such structures, especially where the public is involved. There is a good chance that, since it was in Ottawa, the National Capital Commission was also involved.

What has changed? There is more energy in the weather systems now that in our current history. Microbursts in storms are becoming more common. Maybe it is time for these outdoor venues to move indoors.

Has anyone noticed that this year, at least, we are getting tornadoes further north, like a hundred kilometers north of Quebec City? The time for jaw flapping and silly plans about stemming climate change has passed. The facts are upon us, and it is time to adapt or many more will soon die.

Russia too, who's ever heard of a tornado there?

See what happens when you strew all that garbage around? We are too dirty to live.

According to this article, the stage had no inspections or permits.

and, if the last few paragraphs are any indications, the Westboro crowd will be on the scene soon.

The suits should include the municipality and the state. Both should have required permits and/or inspections. Cheap (illegal?) construction kills more people than many other things. If permits were required with the associated inspections, I would sue the bejesus out of the promoter.
