I just got the demo, I hope there is free roam. And not time limits. If so, I am going to play this till September! I see why you are excited and I just love the demo. If you love the demo you'll love the game even more.

I have to wait until September 6 to get this. I knew it would be rated a B by most people, looks like it will be a great game. I can't wait!

Ubisoft is not shipping the Collectors edition to the U.S . What B.S!!

I was looking so foward to the Shelby Cobra , The Die-cast Dodge Challenger and the Taxi challenges and now I can't!!

Well after playing the actual story mode for a while now I'm starting to get used to the shift mechanic which really needs some practice and strategy. You also have to be able to drive well and pull off some great stunts in chases. This makes the gameplay more fun you wont only rely on the shift mechanic but it can really be a great asset and you'll always stay in the midst of the action. So far the game has been fun the story is a bit bland but the gameplay and city is awesome. This game I would recommend for everyone who likes open world driving games. And if you look for something like gta and expect shooting I suggest looking elsewhere. :thumb: Gets my approval for sure, it isn't perfect but its not broken either. DRIVER IS BACK! :P

Open world driving games always include free roam. That's why it's a "Open World" you're "Free to roam."

Okay went to the midnight release on Tuesday morning ( I was the only kid getting that game lol ) And enjoyed it , both multi and single player , loads of fun!

My rating is a 8.5 out of 10.

    PROS

    -I like the graphics.

    -Runs smooth online and off.

    -Fun driving physics.

    -Insane multiplayer at times.

-San Francisco and Oakland are recreated beautifully.

    -Random Police chases are fun.

-Lot's of side missions and challenges.

    -Car selection is superb.

-Shift is easy to use and fun as well.

-Engine noises are great as well as the tire smoke.

    -Damage modeling is great.

    -The AMC Pacer 6.gif

    -Soundtrack is funky fresh.

    -The movie challenges are AWESOME!

    CONS

-Corny scripting with the civilians when you shift into vehicles at times.

-No night time , but it does get foggy at times.

-No more take-a-ride mode , although story mode offers free roam , you have to unlock sections of it through the missions.

-Some what of a short campaign story.

-NO COLLECTORS EDITION FOR USA AND CANADA! 32.gif

Over all , it is a solid game. You do get your money's worth( Especially if you have PSN or XBL )

If you want to play Driver , shoot me a friend request on XBL @ Pontiac Joe GTO.

Just beat the game, Such an odd ending, but Jones is like "your about to wreck my dam car" :P

Odd that the guy Jericho busted out of jail at the end, was able to just walk away with the smoke from the bomb.

It will take long for me to complete the story I just fool around way to much chasing crooks or being chased. The story could be more like the one in Driver 2 though.

This is just my opinion, but after trying the demo I found there are certain elements of the game that lack realism (e.g. street lights are easily knocked over at low speeds and tyres skid way too easily). I know it isn't a full driving sim, but these things just don't seem right. Also, although the 'Shift' feature is a very innovative idea, I feel it spoils and takes the fun out of simple driving and car chasing, which is the aim of the game. Sure, it is a step forward from the woes of Driv3r and Parallel Lines (which were ultimately shooting game), but I still think sticking to basics like the original Driver would have been the best option.

Yeah , I hear you on that. But they do offer shift free modes for multiplayer , you just have to unlock them.

I never understood the right-turn-only intersections....and (oh my god) when in story mode i cannot STAND these random police chases. Like i'm driving all normal and whatnot it my nice undamaged vehicle...and BAM! Police chase out of nowhere...i can be in a random back-alley and they will find me and smash into my vehicle. Otherwise it's a pretty good game. I give it a 4/5.

Yea , I checked maps of the Real San Fran a while back when the demo is out, and it has regular intersections. I guess they did that so the Traffic wouldn't be screwed up and all over the place.

I just caused a crazy road rage on the interstate on this game. I got many buses and eighteen wheelers to block off the road and many cars piled up and got totaled. I wish I made a video of it.

how much realism can one ask from a game that takes place inside the mind of a coma patient granting him super powers?

seriously. I am through to chapter 6 now, basically spending most time doing the sidekicks, collecting money to buy cars (got all the upgrades already)

what annoys me most is that I can't for christs sake use any other damn controller than the x360 controller (seriously, if I wanted to play a game with this ugly piece of uncomfortable tech, I'd bought myself an xbox). I know there's work arounds, but not for my controller (which is btw a PS3 controller that screws with the game in a way that it doesn't even start when connected, it's the emulator software that for whatever darn reason the game can't stand, it feels so itchy I recon that happens on purpose)

a couple of graphical bugs are there, I can live with them. (Some LODs don't show textures on mid distances)

shift... well... it feels somewhere between great fun and terrible cheating to me. Takedowns and races are a walk in the park with this feature. I just grab one oncoming after another to crash the enemies out of order. nice damage models btw.

Dares are ok to me. Some are really challenging, especially the tag x vehicles in y seconds, but most are outright boring if you got great techniques to beat them (e.g. collect x wp in y seconds; a walk in the park in 1/4th of the time with a 4wd)

the random conversations aboard other cars are fun, but too few if you'd ask me.

EDIT: oh yeah big dislike aswell are the intersections. seriously. 99% of such games have real intersections with working(!!) traffic light and cars do what they're supposed to. why not this game??

all in all quite a nice game. But you only get your money's worth if you're either a dropdead open-world-games fan like me, or a fan of the series. For all others, I guess it's better to wait for platinum or best of or however you wanna call it when it turns budget

EDIT2: after some experimenting I found I am not just able to launch the game with the PS3 controller connected, but also to play it. All I had to do was to switch the necessary software to use the PS3 controller as a gamepad to emulate an xbox360 controller. Lucky me.
