EP1 update trouble

[i'm lost 0]

Hey all I've been having trouble update my sc4 deluxe. I try downloading the update from the website, but after the install is complete none of the files have changed. The patch log says that everything updated correctly, but it's obviosly not true. I've reinstalled and re-downloaded several times, but it's not working. Any ideas?

Make sure you are downloading the right SKU for your region.

Also, have you checked the version of the game you have installed currently. You can check the properties of the game's exe file in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps. If it is not 1.1.638.0 then the patch, indeed, did not take. If it is not, what version does it indicate? Also, do you still use the game's original game files. Any alteration (such as a no-CD patch) will cause the patch to fail. Or do you use the steam version of the game? If so, the game is all ready fully updated. Let us know...

sku_1 and i bought it in the US.

the version is 1.1.610.0 and i haven''t uploaded any patches

i don't have the steam version

If you check in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Sku_Data, is there a Sku1 folder? Also, what operating system do you have? Perhaps you need to be on an Administrator account...

The SKU1 file is there. How do I check if I'm on admin and how would that help?

Depending on the operating system and it's settings, some things may need to be run and/or installed through an Administrator account. I don't think Xp has this limitation, but perhaps Vista and Win7 do...? What do you use? Also, do you have any type of virus/malware programs running while installing that may be blocking the installation?

I'm using Vista, and I think i'm just on the User account. i've got a few firewalls and malware programs running, but i didn't come across any message from them when i was downloading

I don't know enough about Vista to know how to check/set permissions. Also, do you happen to use Avira for an anti-virus program? I seem to remember something about it causing issues like this. Hopefully some one will be along with more Vista experience...

Turns out I did (or my brother did) download one building a long time ago, but then deleted it. Would that matter? Also, would installing a different copy of the game help?

Just answer the question. Use windows explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Maxis\Sim City 4 Deluxe\Apps then move your cursor over the SimCity 4.exe file. Post what version it displays.

Probably not. Plugins shouldn't affect the ability to update the game. If something else was done to the game files, perhaps, but you mentioned you have re-installed several times.

Perhaps, if the current copy you're using has never worked, then something may be wrong with the source you're using. Do you happen to have a different computer to try it on?

Can't say for sure on that one. I suppose it is possible that you have a bad disk (if that's what you use) and something strange is happening. I would probably try to load it on a different computer first, though, before buying another copy. But that's me...

I was going to ask, where are you getting the update files? Perhaps there's something going wrong from that end.

Do you have the disk in the drive when loading the update -- it wont work unless you do. Also the disk is necessary for seeing the results of the update in-game.

I've been using the simcity.com website for the upload and I have the disc in the drive. I think i'm just gonna let it go until i try it on a new computer... thanks for the help

How long ago do you try the site? Did you download the update and run it manually or rely on the automatic update? I haven't been able to use the SimCity site for several days and thought perhaps the auto-update isn't functioning correctly. Just a thought...
