    Hello Simtropolis,

I am a Mac user who wants to play Sim City 4. I own the PC version of Sim City 4, but my PC is, way too old now. I was wondering if it was possible to use Wine instead of using BootCamp to install Windows, and then install Sim CIty 4. Yes, I am aware of the mac version for this game, but it is not longer on sale. If someone could provide me a link to where I could (1) purchase it, or (2) download it, then I would be very grateful. Also, if I were to use Wine to run the game, how would I add my custom graphics? Would it be the same as running it on a PC or different. Another question is how would I add custom graphics for the official mac version, and how would I know which custom graphics are compatible with the mac version of the game.

    Regards,

    xdragon124

EDIT: I am currently running Mac OSX 10.7 (GM)

I have never been able to get wine to work for me, so Im not going to comment on that, but I found that bootcamp was really easy to set up. It come down to personal preference, if you want a dedicated space for windows on your hard drive, then use bootcamp, but if you want it in a window, then try wine or some other program to do that for you. The PC version will use and run the same custom content files as what your mac will run.

Wine with windows installed would essentially be windows, so yes, it would be exactly the same to install custom content as on a PC or Mac.

There is only one file that is not compatible with macs, so as long as you can download it, then it will run on your mac. My local Mac store has copies of SimCity 4 Deluxe, however I don't know of any website that sells it, try ebay.

Thank you for your reply Sir. I tried running it with WINE and it worked. But the graphics lagged a great deal. As a result I am now using VMware Fussion 3, and installing Simcity 4 now. I actually just finished installation.

EDIT: The VMware Fussion version works. It runs, and all, little to no lag, but there is a graphical issue. It's almost like the game automatically turned on one of the data views. I will post of screenshot soon.
