Needs more advice in developing a Region

Got this game again when I remember this last week. Only know how to destroy a city than building one last 4 years ago lol so I got an initiative on at least getting the approach on this game

My first goal was to create a skyscraper

After reading a lot of opinions and comment I give it a shot.

My approach to creating a region is by giving each city a purpose like R$/C$ city, Industrial City and like so.

unleded.jpg

sorry about the names I'm a WoW fanatic

I've done fairly in creating the downtown area where only R$ live. I restrict other type because I need them elsewhere..

unledbx.jpg

and the industrial zone supporting it is in the next area

unledbz.jpg

my problem was on the approach in making the R$ city I dont really know what is my next objective for handling the demands on residence, commercial and industrial

unledzn.jpg

the other 2 city was done just from my boredom in thinking, A power city and a I-HT city

In advance I just want to ask for approach on making a R$$,/C$$ city or anything to improve my game play :D

Your approach is good. You are doing basically what you need to do to get a successful region. Your problem appears to be in Thunderbluff. I think what is happening is that your tax rates are too high, therefore demand is going down and you are getting abandonment. What I suggest doing is lowering your tax rates, especially in low wealth residential, and take out a loan to get a bit more money in the bank. Zone some more low wealth residential to bring in more money from taxes and get a surplus instead of a deficit. Then you can start giving your citizens services and increasing the demand for medium and high wealth residential.

You meant to say that I'll should mix the 3 residential in Thunderbluff instead? So basically building this city from low wealth --> medium wealth --> high wealth citizen than separating them into cities?

In creating a skyscraper I need a demand cap of 40k something so I need to restrict some cities using the C$$$ demands

Guess I've been reading a lot I got confused lol

That's is basically what you have to do. You can separate the 3 into different cities, but the cities where you want high or medium wealth to grow will have to start out with low wealth. What I am basically trying to tell you is that you cannot just zone high-wealth residential and expect it to grow. You have to gradually build and zone medium wealth over low and high over medium.

If you want to get high-wealth commercial skyscrapers, it is probably best to attempt that in one of your residential cities. Zone a part of your city residential and another part commercial. This benefits both because it means shorter commute times for the residents which means higher demand and desirability for both.

Another thing I noticed is that there doesn't appear to be any highways or other modes of transportation between your cities. You are going to want to build highways or mass transit between your residential cities and your commercial/industrial cities. If you don't, you will eventually experience some major traffic problems.

I hope this wasn't too confusing. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you Jack got a good advice from you :D I'll try updating this topic of mine with my progress too

about the transportation there were bus stations and a subway in the city but I think its not laid out efficiently. I got NAM in my plugins.

can I ask a gameplan on transportation because I got worried when I saw some buildings have long commute time and didn't know how to handle them.

You have NAM, that's good. I would get rid of the subway as right now, you just can't afford it. Making bus stops is a good idea, just make sure you have them in all of your cities and that there is plenty so the Sims don't have to walk a long ways. They tend to be lazy and don't like that. When you have finished laying out some mass transit, simulate the game a month or two so the new transportation can take effect.

You have to be very careful trying to separate wealth types. It can be a daunting task, because all three will be needed to work in your skyscrapers. A $$$ building has the same hierarchy as any other business. Only a few $$$ at the top, some $$ managers and supervisors, and the rest will be $ grunts. You have to have more service people than anything else. Think of janitors, messengers, secretaries, clerks, mail room people, etc. All $ or maybe a few $$. The buildings are designed to reflect this in their demand profiles.

From your nomenclature it looks like you really are a WoW addict. Your society will be urban, American, and not given to bashing things, however.

Setting up a separate industrial city is good. Cheap housing comes in high-rose tenements, so think about that in the industrial city and zone some high density near the industrial pod. R$ will live nearly anywhere. These buildings need to be watered, so buy water from one of the clean cities.

As you play more you will find the program is set up to want each city tile to be balanced, and this is where you will start to have trouble. Good luck.

Oh, and here is a screenshot that may be right up your alley:

You have a couple of choices or more.

    1. Urban redevelopment. Rezone some areas to meet the demand. Medium density commercial, high density industrial.

    2. Open a connected city, and zone it there. You'll need water, power, and sewage connections.

Impressive treasury, so you can afford to mess with your city. Nothing is cast in concrete, it is just a matter of being decisive.

    Thanks moose for those advice

This what I got so what will I do now is to create more demand by getting people, rinse and repeat? 200k people in this region btw (my first highest record lol)

I got lazy to put High Tech zones here

If this goes good my problem in the future will be urban planning for all aspects

    Edit:

another WoW name I'm really not good at naming things lol

One thing also to sometimes do is ignore the demand. Imagine that your region is a little factory that produces demand. The machines you place in the factory will determine what and how much your factory has for output. Now the machine operators can improve over time, stagnate or wither; a withering machine is the most problematic meaning that the demand produced won't always be there; an improving machine will produce more demand overtime but the extra production may have unforeseen outcomes; the stagnant machine will maintain the same level of demand for an indeterminate amount of time and if it wasn't for things breaking like power plants or fires you could run the game indefinitely and the demand wouldn't change.

Look at it all this way there are no elections to worry about so your sims can wait forever for some problems to be resolved and others may actually kill off your population.

If you are having naming trouble with cities, here is an image of my region census that may help. I am including the region image as well, so you can see my style. This map is on the STEX.

Feel free to help yourself with the names.
