Maxis buildings...with brown paper packaging and tied up with string

Brown boxes.

Brown boxes.

We all hate brown boxes in SimCity.

Now, most of the time the fix is to download the dependency or missing file for the shiny new plugin you installed, then hi-dee-ho it works perfectly and you can go about zoning residential or whatever. But, I've encountered this problem recently, except with one thing: The brown boxes are all on Maxis' default buildings. I am running the North American SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition with the EP1 (or whatever it's called) and BAT nightlighting fix updates installed.

Here's a list of the Maxis buildings that I've noticed have brown boxes so far:

  • Gustav's Knicknacks & Gewgaws (CS$)
  • Sim Spa and Beauty (CS$$)
  • Rusewicz Ritzy Plaza (CO$$$)
  • Cook's Cooking Supply Co. (CO$$)
  • Chuck Calamity Information Center (CO$$)
  • Daniel's DenApartments (R$)
  • Ellery Elm Tenements (R$)
  • Euro Lux Boutique (CS$$$)
  • Indigo Family Game Centre (CS$$)
  • Kilburn's Kottage (R$)

Perhaps there are more, but here most of these buildings should be in the Houston 1990 building style group and MAYBE Euro-Contemporary.

Right now I am actually not too sure if all these buildings are indeed Maxis ones, but I am quite positive a few of them are.

I have downloaded a mass of Hong Kong plugins (among a few others). I have thought that there might be an overwrite issue thing with my plugins, however I performed the plugin check method and the same buildings listed above have not returned.

Please help!

Thanks,

QuantumEagle

Check your plugins for BldgProps_Vol1 and _Vol2. If you don't have them, you can get them from the Lot Editor page at the EA site or from SC4Devotion. Sounds like you might not have loaded these or they got lost somehow.

I just started a new plugin folder from scratch with only the buildings as props folders in it. Scary thing is, when I started SimCity up again, almost everything was a brown box (I had the Euro-Contemporary style enabled). Possibly the only things that were still recognizable were the industrial buildings and civic structures.

I think that there's something up in my SimCity system files.

This might sound a bit crazy, but if you look in the SimCity files, do you see one named EP1? If memory serves that was added with Rush Hour and provided the necessary buildings for the European set. When I checked the list you gave against the building list I have, they were all European - not Houston. So I removed the EP1 file from my SimCity file folder and all of the Euro buildings that had grown in m city were boxes. You obviously have deluxe, otherwise the Euro option wouldn't even be there. So I'm wondering if something did happen to your files. Just a thought...
