Expanding regions

Allright so I recently got close to filling out all the cities in the region I'm working on so I decided to expand it. I opened up config.bmp and doubled the dimensions, then filled in the new white space with the 4x4 blue, 2x2 green, and 1x1 red blocks. Unfortunately, when I reloaded my region, some of the new blank cities and some old unfilled new cities did not appear (there were holes where they should be, as if the city was corrupted). Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Most of the cities not showing up are the 1x1 ones, but some 4x4 and 2x2 failed to render also.

You might have made a mistake when editing the file. Even a slight mistake could mess things up. A picture or copy of your config.bmp would be nice.

You need to be sure you added to the right and bottom sides of the config file.

Sounds like the game may not have recognized the colors. Did you use true red, green, and blue?

Quite right, Cap. The game allows mixed colors, but the predominant color for a city must be at the maximum. The pure colors are:

Red: 0xff0000

Green: 0x00ff00

Blue: 0x0000ff

You may mix colors if you want to distinguish among cities of the same size that may be adjacent. The Landscape Designer does this. But the color for the city designated must be at maximum. A city with a color designator of 0x88ff00 would be yellowish, but would still have to be a 2 x 2 medium city.

Is it possible to expand to the top? My city has grown more to the top than it did to the bottom.

Not without a bit of work. First, you could save the currently existing city files into the Regions/Downloads folder. Then edit the config to add pixels to the top (be sure to use the correct color scheme). You can then run the game, open the region (you'll notice that the region may be totally flat), and import the cities into the correct places. You will need to know the names of the cities and where you want them. Also, The new cities that you added will be flat and require terraforming if desired.

Important note: Be sure to make a copy of the region in case something goes wrong.

Welcome to the conversation. Capt. City's method is the only one that may work, but you are buying a lot of work. Do be sure your have a good backup of your regions folder before you start this.
