Mac OS X Lion and Simcity 4

As you may already heard, Mac OS X Lion 10.7 is going to be released this Summer 2011. However, Mac OS X Lion would not support Rosetta, an emulator for PowerPC applications that is needed to run Simcity 4 since it is designed for PowerPC. So, will Mac OS X Lion would work on Simcity 4 or I have to use Boot Camp for Simcity 4?

I would think that using BootCamp to run Windows would be necessary.

This will simply require to update to the Universal Binary version of SC4. You can get the UB patch from Aspyr's website. This will mean that if you have the original version that had an installer, you will not be able to install the application, so make sure you make a copy of the SimCity 4 folder, with the Rush Hour update installed, add the UB patch, and store it in a safe place before you install Lion.

As I said before, it won't be an issue if you have Rush Hour or SC4 Deluxe, so you can use the Universal Binary Patch, or you can use a dual-boot setup on the computer so you can continue to run Snow Leopard (or Leopard) to use your PPC application.

Thanks for the tip, luckily I was able to install and run SimCity4 Rush Hour in my OSX Lion. However, it does seems to be quite unstable and the three times I've played it have crashed within 15 minutes... is there a fix for this issue somewhere else? any updates fixing this?

The patch does make the game runnable on OS X Lion, but unfortunately, is not compatible with the hardware of the Fall 2010 MacBook Air, as the patch causes the game to crash as soon as you try to load or start a new city, or very soon after. Game worked fine on this computer with OS X Snow Leopard without the patch, but with the absence of Rosetta in Lion, the game will not run without the patch. :-(

The Macbook Air has limited storage space (128 GB) since it is all flash memory, making it impractical to install a Windows partition on it, Boot Camp, Parallels, or otherwise...

Anyone have any other ideas?
