So I've been playing sc4 for a while and I've never had any disaster other than a fire... why is that? I noticed in god mode i can spawn other things, but why don't they just happen like in previous versions? I checked the settings and they are turned on. Any ideas? Is that nromal? My city is over 100 years old btw, and nothing has ever happened to it.

I've got SC4 with Rush Hour and i have NAM installed. This happened even before NAM though.

Who can read the minds of the designers? It was discontinued in Rush Hour. If you want a disaster, you are god, so cause one.

So it's not just me... good deal. It added a nice element to the game.

For some reason, random disasters other than fires were discontinued in SC4.

This may sound a bit out there, but I've given this question some thought from time to time and come up with something...

It seems this game was designed open ended from the get go, it was made for us to take it and 'finish' it (albeit, it never truly is). There's tools and modding available that were not even given a second thought in previous titles...to many its more like a creative hobby than a game. Now, imagine all those hours, days, weeks, months, years of work gone...at the hands of a typhoon or UFO...in this case we aren't just talking about a single city tile, either, but an entire region is effected...it would cripple your economy region-wide and it would take a lot of time and money to repair that...exactly like real life, eh?

When I read through the manual after first buying the game, they kept mentioning the choice between being a peaceful diplomatic mayor and a corrupt mayor...naturally there's parts in-between but the choice is this: you may CHOOSE if you wish a disaster upon your city, some may like them at random, because it adds a new challenge to the game but on the other hand? You might actually have to create a disaster plan and have something ready before you yourself decide to drop a tornado in the middle of downtown...much like cities in real life, eh?

    Keep calm and take photographs.

I'm probably one of those few players who actually hate random disasters.... especially if you 've actually survived a real life one.

Let's say you were from New Zealand, Japan, Haiti &/or Chile & have gone through hardly moving on after those killer Earthquakes, would you as an in game Mayor want the same fate for your lovingly created SIMs' Cities?

But I'd have to admit I wanted more Disaster tools like a plague of locusts, the in game water turning to blood or even an epidemic like Bubonic plague raveging my cities :0

Is there any event/disaster when police needs to be dispatched?

Cahos, i do see your point. And i do think that it should be able to be turned off. As you said a LOT of these cities such as the ones in CJ's are more art than gameplay. But, i do feel those disasters step up the realism factor in the game. As much as you'd hate to see art get ruined, it is true in real life that Paris France or some other beautiful location could be ravaged by mother nature...

And that would be neat for the locusts or plagues to happen to your city.

The only one I can think of is a Riot.

If you have Meatbomb's Lovers' Lane Lot, you could "try" to send in the cops to stop unruly teens having pre-marital sex in the area LOL!

But try as you may the cops can't or perhaps won't do anything to stop "love" LOL!

Had the programmers of SC4 added a "Mission Mode" Scenario gameplay option to the game, random Disasters could be effectively put into play. Just like in the older SIMCity games where your scenary will begin after a disaster or your troubles will begin after a set time in the scenario mission you are in.

As for the current in game Disasters, I wish there's a mod to replace Autosaurus Wrecks with either Godzilla or Bowser (from the Mario) game &/or changing the Giant Robot attack to any giant Robot from a cartoon or anime to make it more appealing to fans of Giant Robot shows :)

When you think about it, if you are god, then disasters need to be in your purview and not random in your sight. Disasters are available if you are feeling mean. It's up to you to stir your anthill with a stick if you want.

You couldn't make a CJ if disasters were automatic, because you could be wiped out at any time.

well i myself would mind a bit more realistic, like after so many years your city is built you will have re paved street, change water pipe... in your industrial area your road and avenue would be more destroyed potholes, since truck are driving on it. it would make the game a bit more realistic and would force the player to keep a eye on is city.

    just a idea.

You could if they worked like in SC3K. SC3K had the option of turning random disasters on or off. It's not as much fun to have everything predictable and player controlled.

It would be cool if bridges and such would age. Like you'd have replace bridges every so many years or whatever.

If you lower your transportation funding, specifically roads, then potholes and worn roads will appear in the game and will have to be replaced. Same goes for the water (water pipes) and power budget (Power Lines). It's really fun with the power lines cause they spark and if there are flammable objects near by they'll catch on fire. Fun stuff.

Personally I wish there was an option to turn ALL disasters in the game. It is so much more fun to rebuild in a random spot than know what I'd have to once I crash a giant space rock into the ground. Plus, I can't bring myself to destroy my own creations. I don't view myself as God in this game but as an all powerful mayor. To be honest, I would actually go one step further and ask for the option to check off what disasters I want. Example, I don't care for the giant robot since it's not to realistic so I could uncheck that disaster so it'll never happen.
