I am assuming this is something that happens in general, not just to me, but when ever I'm trying to build under or overpasses I'll get to an occasional piece that will just not go in the right direction. For instance one part in building an overhead avenue that will only sit diagonal, no matter how many times you hit the home button trying to get it at the right angle. Especially in built up areas where there is not room to move it around in different directions. So I have to go to another part of the map just to toggle it in the direction I need. Then of course when I try and bring it closer it pops back into its weird angle. I play on very hilly maps I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

With the avenue pieces, the avenue pieces will be 2x1. If you're rotating the pieces on one of the grid squares and you can't get the piece you need, put the cursor on the other grid square, and you should be able to get the orientation you need.

Hope this makes sense. If not, maybe I can draw a diagram, it's somewhat difficult to describe.

If you have rough terrain, you might have to do some ground leveling. Do a save first.

As well as having a lot of rough terrain I use JRJ's tunnel and slope mod which makes placing train stations and so forth a nightmare. Now that I've tried it though I can't go back to the crappy default build over any incline setting. My favourite though is spending 25 minutes leveling then trying to build an avenue bridge just to hit a transit enabled lot and loose everything right before I've finished and saved.

Did you know that placing single road tiles has a leveling effect? I sometimes use an array of them (don't drag) to flatten an area where something needs level ground.
