Tutorial Region Name

Hi,

So even though I'm a veteran of SimCity, I decided to play the tutorials and build up the cities, especially "Big City Tutorial." However, I hate seeing the name "Big City Tutorial" plastered on region view, even though I've turned off the names. Is there any way to remove the name or perhaps to change it without losing the city that I have built using it? Thanks in advance.

Howzit, nicolasville!

If you want to change the name of your city, there is an official cheat for it. Here's how.

While playing your city, hit [CTRL] and [X] at the same time.

Then, enter [whererufrom "your city name goes here"] in the line. If I remember right, you may have to put in the ["quotations"]'s when stating your intended city name. It's a must if you want it to have more than one word in it. I've had a few times where I changed my city's name to like [New Stratos] and it came out as [New] because I didn't quotate it!

Hope this works!

Thanks, the name-changer did indeed work as expected, but unfortunately, the name still appears on region view even when I've turned off the "show city names" button. I have here an example of what I mean. I'm wondering if I can make the name on the thumbnail work normally. Thanks very much for the cheat, though, it'll definitely help me when I need to rename other cities.

Timbuktu is a special region and stuff for it is hard-coded in the game. I don't think you can do better than you have. If you don't like it, copy the entire region someplace else with a different name. You can rename the region internally in the .ini file in the folder.

Nonny Moose is right on the region's internal coding, but there are workarounds. Here's one I've researched.

There is a custom-made region created by Wren Weberg called "Maxisland", made entirely on the original "Maxisland" pre-installed in every SC4 game. That same region is also known as "Timbuktu" in SC4D and Rush Hour.

[Note] Before doing any of this, make a backup of your region in your "Regions folder" [My Documents/Sim City 4/Regions]. If not, any mistakes that occur will be completely irreversible.

When that's done, here's the instructions:

    1. Download "Maxisland" here (its about 70 MBs): http://www.sc4ever.com/media/maxisland.cfm

    2. Extract the file and drag the contents of that folder into your [My Documents/Sim City 4/Regions] folder.

    3. Run the game and go to your region, NOT Maxisland.

    4. Click on the city in question and click "Import City" on the bottom left of the panel. Then, find the city called "Rivertner" in the Maxisland folder string. Import that city.

    5. In moments, your city will be swapped and it will change from this...

    timbucktuhelp1.jpg

    to this...

    timbucktuhelp2.jpg

Voila! You get Rivertner, a pretty wealthy $$$ town. You could obliterate the region if you want to, or work with what Wren made. The downside is that you will have to delete your old city of Brock, and find how to realign the roads to your neighboring cities. Then again, (if you done this) you'd have a backup of your old region and can thus go back to it if you ever feel like it :ohyes: !

Keep in mind though, if you're trying to fix the rest of the persistent city names, the "Terraformer" city up north cannot be fixed with its land intact. Wren didn't fix that in Maxisland, its still persistent. The only option is to delete it completely and re-terraform it. But most of those annoying city names should be fixed :D

One more thing, like what Nonny said, after all that's finished, make a copy of that region and change the name of your region in the [region.ini] file with Notepad. While in region view, there is a settings panel button that reads "Reset tutorials" or something like that. If you ever click that, it runs the risk of wiping out anything on Timbuktu to its default look, and it resets the tutorials back like they were originally.

If you have questions, just PM me.

You should not import a city directly from another region. The program does a move which leaves a hole in the source region. First, copy the city into the My documents\SimCity 4\Downloads folder, then import it from there. This way, both regions are intact.
