So I bought Sim City a couple of days ago for my Mac and it would not load after insalling the UB patch. It would freeze within a few minutes - sometimes on the splash intro screen and sometimes within the game.

I re-insallted everything and did not update with the UB patch and it no longer crashes.

    Anyone else find this too?

It's a bit choppy considering a have a powerful MacBook Pro - I'm considering using a hyhpervisor to be able to install the Windows version on my Mac.

Also, has anyone found any way to make the game smoother or is just how it is on the Mac?

    Cheers!

I found that too, I don't use the UB anymore.

There was a file around here somewhere that played with the "Video Cards.sgr" and "Graphics Rules.sgr" files. They might be a solution, but Im not too sure about that. You could make your own chnages, but I have not tried, and do not know how well that would effect your game or computer.

It's no good even with the graphics patch. Most people say it's playable but for me it's really not - as soon as the city grows to a decent size it's unbearably slow.

Bootcamp and Windows version it is!

Also - I think the reason those other 2 patches didn't do anything is that they were really aimed at ATI cards and I have an nVidia one...

I use it from time to time on an Intel iMac (my parents) and found that without the patch, everything worked great. It was a little slow, but that was Rosetta. I never had an issue with large cities. It would be nice if Aspyr were to update it to function on Intel machines, but they likely don't want to expend the resources because there is no return ($$) in it. Perhaps they could update it, then sell the updated version via the Mac App Store or Steam, then make the same patches available to anyone who bought the game, perhaps utilizing the Disk Code that came with it for verification.
