I wish my airport had so much parking - it would make life a lot easier! 18.gif

I like the layout so far and the density is pretty realistic.

I dont get it? Nice Terra forming BTW. But to start a new region with the Freeways or roads all put in is something I cant ever agree with. Before you have a need for them how can you justify it. Sorry to be so critical but I see this in alot of CJ and it makes me think it will just be rows and rows of skyscrapers.

Too me its like you arent designing a livable space with all the proper wants and needs of the sims you will have inhabit it. Although your first few cities are nice looking, why do you need such a large airport at this stage?

Where ever you got there you are.

Thats a common misconception. Highways have been around for a long time and have caused the starting and growth of many cities. Its not to common for the east and west coast but here in the Centeral US it happens alot. for example Colo Spring used to be the capital of Colorado and Denver was a very small nothing city. Then they built the highway I-25 threw Colo Springs and Denver and both cities shot up but Denver alot more, so there fore it became the capitial and the largest city in the Interior west. Also if you take any highway threw the mountains probally half the cities developed because of the highways and their survival relies upon them.

Also i built the airport because i was taking a break from finals studing. I built it large cause i might as well build it large now. My major city will travel down the coast from the airport and in alittlebit

What you say about hiways creating growth is very ture and I agree. what im saying is that in a region with nothin in it how can you justify the hiways. Your comment about hiways spurring growth is valid but the conditions you speak of leave out one important point. Those hiways were going somewhere . Before development in colorado those roads spanned the country. they were going to los Angeles or points east.

Los Angeles built freeways that went places then added more as the population grew. they didnt build freeways just because they could.

But I will add that your hiways may be going other places if that is your thought pattern. Im just befuddled by region designers who lay out the city roads before any development takes place. It doesnt evolve lets say. Just seem unnatural.

Im sure your airport will get good service levels but in the mean time that one city square is saddled with the high cost of it. If you ran all your developed cities and continued to develop the others around the airport, lets say a year at a time for each city square to simulate congruent growth. The city with the airport would surely go bankrupt because there is no surrounding population to support it.

Basically building an airport before air travel was invented. I know it doesnt make sense in SC region building. But just think if you took a realistic approch to your beautiful terreforming what it would look like?40.gif'

One other thing.....Alot of towns died because of the Interstates too. Route 66 is a good example of that. Where Route 66 paralells the Interstates towns still flurish. but those that were not fortunate enough to be in the area of the interstate building either stopped growing or shriveled up into nothing. Route66 runs along I-40 from California to Arizona New Mexico Texas and Oklahoma.People still talk about what the interstates did to rual America...knocking some places off the map completely. Not just along I-40.

There's two types of highways IMO. Theres in-city ones (like most of the ones in LA or any big city for that matter) and there are connecting ones. These are usually just 4 or 6 lanes total, and are just used to connect big citys (like the New Jersey Turnpike). These are used a lot of travelers and such, and because of people using the highways, hotels and motels and such sprang up along them, then they needed people to work, etc. etc.

Actually there are more than just 2 types of higways. and most miles of highways are not of the type you find in urbanized areas. Not even in california. True the metropolitain areas are multilane freeways but most hiways are just 2 to 4 lanes wide.

Well yes I'll be the first to admit I just said two types of highways to try to take the easy way out, but I read that LA has more miles of highway than like the rest of California alone or something like that.

And i would put it on MEX but i already have cities on it. Is there an easy way to post it without backing up all your cities and then demoloshing it then putting the cities back on ?

Nope sorry you are wrong.....California is a big place...LA is only a part of it. LA may have more freeway miles than any other city but California isnt a city.Im not commenting from afar. I was born and raised in california. Until recently I lived outside of LA in Ventura County. Ya Know US101 runs from Mexico to Canada as does I-5. There are more miles of both those higways outside of LA then are in LA.
Consider LA is just a city and neither the 101 or the I-5 have 20 miles of road inside the city proper. most people talk about La as a region...which it is but as a city La doesnt have the majority percentage wise of the freeways or high was as does the rest of California. LA County has more miles Freeways than the City of LA...and im sure thats what you refer to. there are cities that are totally surrounded by the City of La also. So technically the freeways that run through those cities arent in theCity of LA proper. Im sure the Jersy Turnpike runs through more cities than just Jersey...........

Did some more work. Will have a few close up's later. And yes i fixed the unemployment problem with south shade ville. But what i cant figure out is no farms will develop. Even with the demand mod...everything develops but the farms. I dont get it. Well here is a pick of the progress.

Your city looks like a good place to live. Not to dense build and lot of parks.
I agree about the large airport and all those highways though. I would have build them later in the game. But it looks like you got a purpose for this region so we have to wait and see. Good luck with it!

Yea...i already know where everything is going to go 9.gif I guess i should put another region view out with stuff colored in. I also have so many highways because thats where most of downtown is going to be. With my last city i was only able to get 2 lvl 5 buildings out of a city of 2mill. Those 2 developed right next to the highway.

Well here your wrong, becuase the New Jersey Turnpike only goes through NJ, and only has about 10 exits the whole time (which is really weird, especially cause NJ is a really long state, but they want to keep traffic down), and really it's only job is to connect NY and PA, cause living along it isn't gonna help much if the next exit is 20 miles away (as they very frequently are, sometimes much more). Like in California I-5 or 101 is probabing a connecting type of freeway, at least outside the cities they run through.

This is a very nice city. However, may i suggest that you start using one-way roads in the central city areas? That would look very nice.

I would but its not really needed here in this town of 22k. There are no traffic problems as is. you will start to see them pop up when i get the cities going to the north closer to where downtown is going to be. Id have alot of updates but i cant load and cities now because i did the lighting patch from maxis's site, the nite time textures (http://simcity.ea.com/exchange/lots/) and now when i load it the game just closes. When i get home ill work with there tech and post ?'s here. And i would delete the files the patch put on but i dont know what files it put in.
