Welcome! 9.gif I'm already loving that model. Looks like a small midtown office building.

Can't wait to see what you do with the roof.

    I'm the 'A' to the 'r', to the c-h-e-a-n,
and even though my name means 'old' I'm really quite pimp,
    I'm Archilicious.

Hi, well if you are not sure if it should be a $R or $C probably means that you are improvising as you go...I think that before starting to BAT something you should have a clear idea of what you going to do, then find a reference for that and try to base your model on that. If you starting to BAT, why don't you try to re-create something that is already there, this helps in many ways and simplifies the process of learning to BAT because you can then just focus on how to re-create one specific thing instead of also having to make a design that is coherent . If you are not architect or engineer this also helps to understand the proportions and details that exist in real structures and then you can try to make some of your own.  My intention here is only  to help you and not to discourage you...good luck and I would love to see more of your progress.

Yes, basing your building on a specific real structure and recreating every detail is the best learning experience for the effort.

This looks like it could be mixed use, so it really doesn't matter which you choose. You shouldn't worry about it until you have finished more of the details, though.

Just to give you some tips on size, I'll tell you some basic sized I use for my buildings. Doors are about 1mx3m (all heights are after 133% vertical scale) so double doors about be 2x3m, a single floor should be about 4m tall depending on use and the first floor may be taller in some cases (like if it is a CS or CO), the width of a wall should be around .3m (any more and it will look too thick, any less and it may look like paper, but this depends on what you are making). This takes some of the guess work out of things, which can help a lot if you don't know the exact dimensions of a building you are making.

The only other thing left to say is to keep your proportions as accurate as possible and add as much detail as possible.
