i can't for the life of me see how the train stations fit to the rail.  the station always seems to go the wrong way.  and the other issue i have is that the rails have gaps if you don't do the whole line in one go.  anybody got any ideas, i can't get any results when i type railways or stations into the search bar.

Hi, I recently built my first metro rail line and did run into some challenges but figured it out. The way it works is you have to build the entire line all at once and plop down subway stations as you go. You can also hold shift to raise or lower the line. Sometimes you need to lower the line further underground so it doesn't interfere with infrastructure. You can also make the rail go above ground so you can have a more normal looking rail line which is what I did but it took a lot of work. But you must remember to bring the rail underground again whenver you want to place a station since the only type is a subway station. After you build the line it is still possible to extend the line by clicking the metro station from menu and click directly on an existing metro station alreayd build at the end of a current line. You can also delete metro stations along the line but can never add them again to the middle of the line so you have to plan this very carefully.

Also remember metro is insanely expensive. I built a fairly small line that cost me 20,000 / mo so i had to delete some of the stations and switch to a smaller train.

you dont have to build it all at once. My metro stations are mostly segmented. I feel its more efficient as some parts of the line are much more crowded than others. Only negative is that it doesn't look as good, but functionality is all that matters.

????? What do you mean you don't need to build it all at once??????

Or you're actually linking several lines and thing they form a single line?

I do that sometimes, link several lines together and their function of several more efficient lines are like one big and really efficient line.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Meaning i make a bunch of small lines and connect them so people get off of one and get on another.  I'll add in a pic if it helps explain.
