Installation Issue

This has been happening for a while now. I am installing SimCity 4 on a computer, and I goes through both disks. When it comes to the second disk, I am lead to believe that I am ment to be prompt to return the first disk to the machine to finalise the install, and launch the game. This never happens and the installer crashes.

Thinking that the install has finished, i insert the first disk, run the game. an the game will not even load. I choose to run the game through the "Run As..." option and select "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity". Select OK, and am prompted with the following:

Title: "Error: CreateDirectory(C:\DOCUME~1\[username]\LOCALS~1\Temp\)

Description: "Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

So I clear out my Temp folder, and the problem reoccures! How do I fix this.....

First of all, wait until the installation of SC4 is finished. Leave disc 2 inside your cd drive and let the game load.

Second, you need the second disc inside yoru cd drive to play the game.

    Might I be more specific...

When Disk 2 has completed a majority of it's contents. This installation dialog box closes suddnely, and the Splash Screen doesn't display. Nor does the splash screen display when I select the game from the hard disk.

When the installation dialog closes; I open Task Manager to check what's happening with the SimCity installation, and nothing is present!

The game might be running allready. If it doesn't launch, try entering task manager, go over to processes, and if there is a SImCity4.exe, kill it.

If you are loading SimCity4 Vanilla and not deluxe, it should load when the installation finishes.  If you are loading deluxe, I can't say because I have the Rush Hour expansion.  However, the play disk is the second one, and I have never heard of remounting disk one to complete anything.

I suspect you may have fallen prey to your security consciousness.  You do know that the game initiator spawns another process with a random name starting with a tilde (~), I trust.  This is the game watchdog, and without the correct disk in the drive, it will give you a message to put the disk in and restart.  If you are not seeing the second process, the next question is why not?  This process is the security daemon for the game, and it must be present.  If something in your system is preventing it from starting, that is your problem.

Meanwhile, please read the first sticky in this list.  We need several details which you have omitted in order to begin to diagnose this.

Oh, and if you are a programmer, please read the most recent post standing in my name.  I need some serious help.
