i'm actually playing CXL2011 in ubuntu x86 and works without problems for me , except for shadows

when i try to activate them the result is a series of black dots all over the screen that appear to be random generated

and some other minor glitches......

ideaS???

by the way i'm using wine 1.36 with a 9600 GT nvidia

all mods are workin fine (with one exception: roundabouts color don't match properly with the new skimbo's road textures as they do un CXL2009 and remain just like the "stock version")

As you should know, I use Windows 7. Most people use windows with this because that is the only system currently supported.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

That shadows glitch is not a Linux problem...

is the same error that I get when trying to use my Higher Graphic Settings mod on 2011, so maybe is a game error, linked to graphic drivers or cards.

Have installed the 2009 version on (K)ubuntu 10.10 but there seems to be an issue with the net framework 2.0 install. There is a fix for that but I haven found it yet. The issue is with the mscorsvw.exe file that crashes. A workaround is on the net nut it only works with win2k and citiesXL isn't made for win2k so i didn't try it. Anyone have a clue then please share your solution with the comunity

    cheers

I used linux exclusively for a couple years but recently went back to Windows. The cons of linux for me far outweigh any minimal benefit it may bring. Awesome if you can get this game to work, and props for using linux...as far as I'm concerned, gaming and linux don't mix.

Well thats what I thought also untill I came across the project playonlinux.com. It really made life easier regarding playing games with linux and as I generally don't like shooting games etc its ideal for ppl playing stratergy games and building games like CitiesXL IMHO. Anyway I will try to install citiesxl 2011 tomorrow on a fresh linux image. Hope things work out with wine etc! I have located the issue up till now with an unstable install of network frame 2.0 in win (ofcourse its always the windows rubish that screws things up!)

update: have posted this issue on the playonlinux.com forum just to get things going. Have concluded it has to do with the net framework update from MS and that this is not compatible with the net framework patch (config) that playonlinux.com uses. If you want this worked on faster (they are not that fast on playonlinux) please support my post there. It' s in the suggestion/ideas thread under the user name Lancelot (registration is free).

ok have got CitiesXL 2011 working on linux (kubuntu 10.10) without any issues using playonlinux. Looks great. You need to activate gdiplus in you wine prefix to get it to work. Any questions just ask here or/and look at the site playonlinux.com!

    good luck
