Can someone tell me how to make costomized automata? (Railway engines/cars to be specific)

Well, are you looking to make a model from scratch or replace the texture of an existing model?

If you want to make a model from scratch, you need to have a program that can render 3ds files. 3ds Max is perfect for the job, but it is expensive, unless you have a ".edu" email. If you follow my first link above, and register on the Autodesk 3ds Max site and get your trial version of 3ds Max. 

There are also free programs, such as Blender that can do the job of rendering 3ds files. This is a better option if you are not a student, because the 3ds Max regular version costs thousands and thousands of dollars.

For replacing the texture of automata, there is a simple tutorial found here that goes through the process step by step. Remember that to view this last thread at SC4 Devotion, you must have an account there and be logged in.

I'm also curious how to make automata. I have gmax but I can't see to find a good tutorial. (Maybe im not looking hard enough) thanks in advance!
