Zoning in CXL

I've tried to get into CitiesXL method of city building and really do like the emphasis on transportation - but I cant seem to play more then 10 minutes at a time because of the zoning thats required and the time wasted on making sure everything fits.

I honestly feel like if I have no choice but to use the grid system in CitiesXL because of the small maps - I wish I can get away with curvy roads and open spaces but I feel that you get punished by doing so.

How are people dealing with this and building without relying on the 2x6 lot building tool? I'd love to hear suggestions as I feel the only zoning that's trully fun is the farm industry.

Quite simply, I'll lay out my avenue structure first, using the curve tool and whatever, then use the freeplace tool to make "estates". I find it comes out nice and natural looking that way.

I don't use the grid tool anymore.

If you're already making non-grid farms, then you're already 90% of the way to using the freeplace tool.  4.gif

Ok thank you ill try this out - i just feel that creativity is being bashed by the small map size, and in the QnA with the developer they mentioned that larger maps wont be supported 15.gif

You're the first one complaining of small maps..... For me personally, I've never had any problem concerning map size - in fact, I have trouble filling them. Well, I haven't done a huge city yet, but with the one with 500 000 in it, I haven't filled even 1/4 of the map, and I still have plenty of medium density residential zones.

But yeah - I use almost exclusively the free zoning tool, sinse it allows me to fit all block nicely. If I were you, I'd start experimenting with it and try to squeeze all efficiency it's capable of giving you.

I don't consider the maps to be small. Though they aren't quite as large as RL major cities, they are larger than anything we've had in the SC series.
