Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Strange. Now that the day has come and gone, I noticed the same thing. We were out-and-about in the evening, but I saw no children walking door to door. There was still plenty of light, so I know it wasn't over. I may not care for the holiday personally, but it does seem kind of sad to not see groups of kids making their way through a neighborhood.

Someone mentioned earlier that Halloween is dying. They just may be right. Plenty of holidays simply... fade away, unless one gets a day off in the process.quote>

Another observation that seems consistent with this: the quantity of Halloween decorations people put out around where I live has decreased noticably. Though, that may just be the economy.

I propose a hypothesis as to what a key cause of killing Halloween may be: parents being lax about what they let their kids eat. Think about it. Halloween is special when you're a kid because you get lots of candy. But if you get candy all the time, it loses that meaning.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

In the last several years I have noticed more people putting up Halloween decorations. Heck, I've noticed people putting up decorations for Valentine's Day for crying out loud. I could see cutting out some paper hearts, but you don't need an inflatable cupid on your lawn. So tacky.

I saw hardly any kids out and about on Sunday. My parents said they got six kids at their door. 2 groups of 3. Granted that's up from none they got last year, but I agree that Halloween is fading, at least the trick or treat aspect of it. Halloween parties and costumes are still quite popular it seems. I didn't bother with a costume this year though.

Does anyone else have kids bringing boxes to collect change for UNICEF trick-or-treating with them in their town? The schools around here hand them out before Halloween and make a charity drive out of it.

Seems nice, right? Yeah, well, I happen to find this despicable. Key reason: it's exploitative of children. The kids don't know what UNICEF is and don't understand what the money they're collecting is for. They are just being used as adorable faces that adults will have a hard time saying no to. And what's more, you can't just ignore them as you might any other solicitor because you're forced to interact with them to give them candy.

Beyond that... I am not a religious man, but I happen to believe (in a non-literal sense) that the deepest level of hell is reserved for spammers - people who accost you to try to sell you something, be it a product, a politcal item, or "a good cause". And that's when an adult does it themself. Making children do it for you is quite another level of evil. If I ever have kids and one of them brings one of those damned boxes home from school, I swear, I'm burning it.

quote>

Meh, don't even get me started on catalogs that schools have kids sell from...

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

Ever since I moved to the middle east, Halloween over here haves nothing to do with Halloween in the states over here the whole Trick or Treat never came here, but the Halloween parties are called (try to pronounce it: Bar-Baaar-raaaaa) means to dress up in disguise, the parties are amazing and people do take their parting over here to the next level.

The problem: only the upper class knows it! and no one else knows it, ask the supermarket he won't know what your talking about, ask someone at a high class gathering everyone will be like OH! are you going?(just picture it in a cliche high tune voice), this is the part where I laughed my pants off!.

Hallowe'en -Hallowed eve's evening

the evening the day before the "hallowed's day"

the evening before the day of Holy people

the evening before "All Saint's Day"

there's its meaning and that's why i'm happy that it's dying out.
