This has happened to me also.

I was building the giant ferris wheel blueprint and it got to complete.

It came up with msgs saying it reached all the next stages.

By the second to last stage, the wheel was beginning to look good but then when complete, it disappeared leaving only the base of the building there.

Even the workers began getting jobs there, and I was getting the benefits from it but no picture or animation, which was my only reason for wanting it.

What were you building and what did yours do?

Also what are your theories on the cause?

I hadnt thought of that...

thanks mate.

To be more helpful.....

I was thinking more along these lines:

a: Im not sure if the blueprint is either part of the game originally or it was 'unlocked' due to one of the many, many patch files I have installed. Should the latter be the case then Focus cant really help with this. They could, but dont need to.

b: I was hoping other people on here would have had the same problem that someone knew how to fix it.

If it is a broken mod, or 'unlock' then perhaps by bring it to attention it might one day get fixed.

The blueprint I was wanting to build is the giant ferris wheel. I have noticed that with all other bp's when you select them and move the mouse over your map to place them, you get the full building in transparent view.

Then you place it and begin to contruct it.

With this one, all you see is what I see after it is saying completed, that is, an unfinished building.

This to me says that perhaps there could be a file missing somewhere. A corrupted image it is rendering from?

Upon further investigation into the files, I opened the giant wheel class file and can see a reference to a file that doesnt exist on my installation at all.

That is as far as I got with the issue.

So if anyone else has any other information other than the obvious please let me know.

James

OK, sorry if my answer seemed unhelpfull, but the truth is that I can't help you indeed. Still:

a) The Blueprints are now part of the full game - no unlocking or patching necessary to have them. So, you should indeed contact them and let them know of this problem.

b) I haven't seen anybody else complain of the exact same problem.... I very much think that this is indeed a bug, either a general one (due to installation, or generall issues), or specifically with the Ferris whieel.

All the BPs I've built so far work great, I hadn't problems building them, and once completed they did the job they're supposed to do. On the other hand, I'm not very sure, but think the Ferris wheel is the only animated BP - maybe it has something to do with that.....

At any rate, contact Focus Home.

On the cities xl forum I just found somebody else with the same issue:

http://forum.citiesxl.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1216

They have a picture up there too.

But your right, Focus it is!!

I have tried deleting the unfinished completed stupid building and now the menus all freeze.

Bulldozer wont work and del key on keyboard does nothing other than freeze the game.

Having a look at some of the code around this game, the blue prints are extremely buggy, sadly because its all hard code it can't be changed by a customer. Its going to need a patch and there really should be with the awful mistakes in there, horrendous logic on how they have been primed.

Basically if you play the game a certain way early on, like if you test a blue print and then decide you don't want it, this bug will happen.

It will be your deleted structure will be on the blueprints menu forever and if you start a new one the blueprints menu will be locked to the old deleted structure so for example. If you remove the soccer stadium, remove it and then build a base ball stadium you will won't see any options for the base ball stadium but it will ask you for the some tokens as the old soccer stadium.

You will then see the new stadium building up in time with this menu but it will mean once its finished you won't get the completed graffic, it will get stuck looking like a building site. Its an awful bug. terrible coding and bad choices just like the registration process here. Capture code and a math question? Pff come on next these forums will be asking people for their blood type.
