I have looked around for a solution to a multiplayer region and the only information I have been able to find on the topic is a filesharing program called Wuala. So I downloaded Wuala but don't really understand what both me and my friends need to do in order to play. Most of us are running Windows XP with one on Vista. I have read the post on Wuala that is here on Simtropolis and it did not help alleviate my confusion. It is the exact same thing that I found on the other two or three websites with information on the subject. I catch on fairly quickly with the computer concepts and am probably the most technologically savy of all us that want to play but even so if you can please simplify the explanation that would be great. For example with the symlinks or symbolic links please write the whole path directory starting with the hard drive and such. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Simtropolis and the conversation.

Good luck with this.  The documentation was clearly written by a programmer for his in-group.  You'll have to get inside his mind to understand this.  SC4 has absolutely no provision for queueing multiple user inputs/outputs, so it would have to be handled by a server that could sort things out.

If I were doing this, I would want to rewrite the game entirely.

    do not despair

windows live mesh, a program that allows you to share folders can make playing simcity 4 regions with friends real simple....

share a simcity 4 document folder and make a special simcity 4 shortcut to it by adding the -userdir: command (for instance if you have muliple plugin folders)

you and everyone sharing with you on the mesh can now play the same region (keep in mind only one person may work on a city at a time... but after the file is updated you may see users work)

    so,

    1. download live mesh

    2. share a simcity 4 folder with live mesh (includes regions, plugins, and all other options shown in the simcity 4 documents folder)

    3. play with everyone you share it with by making another shortcut for simcity to the new simcity 4 folder shared on the mesh

ive done this with many users and can be really fun as long as everyone can work together

    our world is a simcity

Can multiple people play at once? All in different cities of course.
