Here's a few more I found:

And the same sign after the re-assignment a while ago, showing the dodgy job done by most of the sign crews:

Cabria is also a bad sign font for the same reason as Times New Romanquote>

I'm sorry I made a typo, I was using Calibari not cabria. Sorry about that.

EDIT:What font do you use to make VMS Signs? Because i want to make my own but don't know how to do it.

All of these look great. I wish i could figure out (or get the time) to make these sort of signs. I have so many ideas I would love to experiment with- I'm big into this sort of thing.

It's actually pretty easy if you have some decent image editing software (i.e. GIMP, Paint.NET)

I'm experimenting with some different fonts right now. I have a couple of them to share.

First, a sign that tells the exits in the downtown area of my city of Relstin. The font is called "Zero Threes" I believe.

    downtownrelstinexitshig.png

And the second one is a distances sign. The font is Ubuntu (According to the Internet)

I made this based on nathanthemayor's latest sign:

    ntm_alt.png

Personally I find this design much easier to read.

    @sir_knight

The font on the second sign was very readable, compared to the first sign. So, I suggest using the second font. 2.gif

You can make them in any program. I use paint.

@riiga:What language is that on the sign??Also btw the "20" routeshield is supposed to be a tollway.

    It's Swedish, my native language!

    • Söder = South
    • Hamnen = The Seaport

As for tollways, I've never encountered them in real life, so I couldn't think of any way to sign it.

Actually there are two bridges, Öresundsbron (connection to Denmark) and Svinesundsbron (to Norway) that are tollways, but I've only gone on the Öresund bridge once. Also Stockholm has some sort of congestion charge, but apart from that no tollways. 1.gif

We have just a few toll roads, mostly consisting out of tunnels. We Dutch pay road taxes instead of toll. Yep, the Netherlands has high taxes, but we have a well maintained road network (not really super, but I've seen worse in other countries).

Anyway, here's a version of mine of NTM's sign:

    bewegwijzeringntm01.png

I've put some less important information on a second sign: a service sign. These signs prevent that the other signage become pretty full of not really significant, but still noteworthy targets. Mostly these signs contain targets like tourist attractions or industrial areas. The targets displayed in black (with a white background) refer to places which are not cities, in this case streets, a station, a parking lot and a harbour.

Also I've added prefixes to the road numbers. I've used the belgian system. Loop 20 is renumbered to R 20 (where R stands for "Ring") and Route 35 becomes N35 (since I don't think this route is a freeway). Also the exitnumbering scheme has changed to sequential instead of numbering on mileage basis.

I created this signs on my laptop, and I don't have sign fonts on my laptop currently. Instead I used Arial.

    Best,

    Maarten

After the inspiration you all have given to me, here's my rendition of the signs you would find in "my other CJ"s roads...

The difference of this signs respect the rest of the European ones is the green labelling for important streets, avenues, etc.

    cartel1.jpg

Inmediate exit in a 2-laned highway.

    cartel4m.jpg

    Upcoming exit in 500 meters.

    cartel3s.jpg

Inmediate exit on a 3-lane highway.

Thanks to mrtnrln for allowing me to use his designs as a template. The originals can be found here [link].

    Suggestions and critiques are welcome!

Because it's a highway, it would still be signed as an 'exit', not junction.

No doubt a clash between nathanthemayor's American system ans mrtnrln's European one.

Anyway, here's a new one I haven't posted yet. Ignore the traffic lamp, it's more of a placeholder.

    tollboothmanual.jpg

It's a recreation of signs used above tollboothes here in Queensland, before they were removed. Oh, and that symbol is terrible thanks to low-resolution images.

@nathanthemayor: Not bad, but you should try centering and making sure the proportions are correct.

@jdenm8: Looking good, except for the symbol, as you said 3.gif

Here's two more signs I made:

    ost1.png

    ost2.png

Just two regular Swedish exit signs. The first one with local destionations only, the second one with a county road as well.

Hey mrtnrln, could you tell me what program you use to make your realistic signs? (And PLEASE don't tell me it's Photoshop) I've been wanting to design a few signs that I can put into the game (I'd have to learn how first) and use in my cities!

I claim to practice architecture, but in reality architecture practices me.

Hey mrtnrln, nvm, I found out that Inkskape is a good tool. Here are my first two signs: (And they actually completely involve things in my city)

Is it a good first? Huh? Huh? ANSWER ME NOW!!!26.gif
