Scorpio Island

Hello all and welcome to my attempt at a CJ. Comments and suggestions are welcome, jerks are not.
 

Scorpio Island is a moderatly sized uninhabited island 200 miles of the coast of California. Recently, a group of people who

were fed up of the US bought 3 cargo ships and set sail for this island to found a new country.

 


 3 cargo ships have set sail from San Francisco. Their destination, away from the US. The people aboard these boats were fed up with the US and the recession, and believed they could do a better job.

Around a week later, an island was sighted. The charts said that this island was unnamed and uninhabited, so they decided to land. Upon landing, the leader Graham, and his closest advisors decided on a name for the island. They named it Scorpio Island, and they also decided they landed on the Graham Peninsula.

The citizens immidiatly began with the construction of a lumber mill to harvest the island's huge and dense Californian Forests for materials to start building the new town.

An experimental geothermal generator, invented by PEG Industries, was also brought with the group as a power supply.

Scouting parties were sent out, and preliminary reports put the Graham Peninsula looking something like this:

Meanwhile, the citizens were busy at work developing houses, a seaport, and stores.

The citizens, who have started calling themselves "Scorpians", are off to a good start.

    A week after the landing, development is really spreading. Due to the unorginized nature of the group, no organized subdivisons are popping up yet.

    If you can notice in the middle right of the picture, the citizens have managed to build a school to begin educating the populace.

    Meanwhile, the industry is really expanding by the lumber mill. As more industry moves in, the lumber has had to expand its chopping operations. Its surprising that the environmentalists haven't spoken up about this yet, I'm sure something drastic might come soon.

     Great start to your CJ! I can't wait to see what happens next! My only suggestion for now is just a simple reminder to turn off the grid before taking in-game pictures, but other than that it looks great! 44.gif

    If you're having trouble taking screenshots of the entire screen, look in the bottom left corner of your screen while in game for a small square with a dash or minus sign in it. Click it, and your dashboard should vanish. Then you can in this order, press and hold "ctrl+shift+s" which will bring up a screenshot screen, then just click the mouse and you took a full resolution screenshot. You'll find them in your My Documents/Sim City 4/Albums. Hope this helps you show larger images!

    Oh, but make sure from now on, your images are .JPG files when you post them in your city journal. It's a City Journal guideline which makes the loading times for some users with slower computers faster. 1.gif If you need a good program that saves images in JPG format and in high quality, GIMP does great what with saving in both high quality and small files.

    All: I nearly gave up on this because I didn't feel encouraged, but I do now so thanks! A new update will be up as soon as someone tells me how to change the format using GIMP or I figure it out myself17.gif! Thank you all of you!

    Note: I messed around with the format and size and couldn't figure out how to change it back, thats why this post looks funky.

    After forever, here's another update!


    Welcome back! Development has really sprung now. So much, that environmentalists are worried that the sawmill might chop down more then the environment can handle, action is expected from them in the future.

    Note: I didn't notice those U-Drive-It icons until I had the image uploaded, so I'll make sure to watch that in the future. Beginners make mistakes, I suppose.

     


    Meanwhile, at the sawmill, they have finally managed to aquire some heavy lifting equipment from suppliers in the US. They wern't happy about it, but they had no other choice. Industry was stagnating without them.

    Note: (again) I accidentally took all the pictures I wanted before I realized the grid was still on, so I retook them and deleted the ones with the grid, looks like I deleted the wrong one43.gif.

     


    All the development has convinced the population that they are there to stay, so the created a more permanent residence for their leader, Graham.

    Further inspection of the coast line has revealed that a section close to town is very rocky, which may be a problem for the seaport nearby.

    The talk of the town, though, is that a delagation has arrived from the US by boat, and is currently in talks with Graham.

    US Delagation: So Graham, we are here to talk of peaceful reunification of you to the US, no questions asked, no punishment needed, and the control of the island ceeded to us. What do you say?

    Graham seems to ponder this for a moment, then responds.

    Graham: As long as I was in school, I was taught that the United States celebrated its many freedoms. I also remember being taught that "they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" to quote from the Declaration of Independance. Well, this is my pursuit of happiness, and, still being a legal US citizen, forcing me back would be breaking my rights. Bottom line, I will never, ever, ever come back peacefully. Peaceful reunification is not an option! Now good day sir!

    US Delegation: But...

    Graham: I said good day!

     I sense a future US invasion possibly??? Could there be something more on the island besides lumber that has caught the eye of the United States? Ehhh just some random predictions on my end...but another great update! I can't for more! 44.gif
